Breast Form site

Has anyone gotten a breast form from here?  It's kind of interesting.  I'm looking at the attachable possibilities.

I know of one woman who got the Amoena contact form that was recently discontinued from this site. She said that after shopping around, she found that they had the best price.

FWIW, I once called them with a question and they were very helpful.

They actually maintain two sites, one for women and another for transgendered people (cross-dressers). If you land on the wrong one, look for the link to the other.

The person I spoke about actually purchased her form from the site intended for transgendered people and cross dressers. She found the prices for the attachable Amoena form she wanted cheaper there, even than at the sister site for women.

I thought that some of the forms for the transgendered looked better than most mastectomy breast forms.  I, also, noticed that they have more possibilities for wearing them attached.  I wondered if anyone had tried them.

Here I go again!  I still am researching for what I think I will be most comfortable with and find you seem to really be up on this stuff!

I still wonder.... is the cross dresser's form using as high quality silicone?  I read somewhere that it important to have medical grade silicone... whatever that means!

Also, I betcha that the reason they are cheaper is due to insurance costs for the mastectomy ones.  You may have seen that the place I went, first of all checked my insurance before they showed me anything and then showed me an invoice for 100. more than what I later found it on their "OWN" website offered it for.  After I told her I was going to wait before purchasing... she shredded the invoice w/ prices.  I am beginning to think that we should just go find what we like the best through these stores and then just buy on the internet where the prices seem to be slashed!  I would be better off doing that and submitting my own invoice to insurance it looks like.  Yet.... I could have recon and they would pay 90% of thousands!!

Have you checked my non-profit website, BreastFree.org? You might find it helpful, especially the "Breast Forms" and the "Bras and Camisoles" sections. In those sections, I recommend breast forms and bras that women find particularly comfortable. In the "Helpful Links" section, you'll find links to some online sites that sell breast forms and bras.

I think some of the forms offered on the transgendered site are less expensive brands and may or may not be medical grade silicone, but the one that was ordered by the woman I mentioned was a regular Amoena form. I think it was called the Tria Plus contact form. They still have limited sizes of that form on the site, but that particular form has been discontinued by Amoena.

Basically, online sites often sell the high-quality forms, like Amoena, for far less than you would pay at a retail shop. The catch is that many of the online sites won't accept insurance. I guess you could submit your own insurance claim. I'm not sure how easy that would be. The fitters in the retail stores usually do it all for you.

Since my surgery in 2006, I've used a local fitter for any forms I've gotten using my insurance. For any other forms, I've always purchased online, as the prices are so much better.

How about www.tlcdirect.org?  Has anyone used there breast forms, mastectomy bras etc....  I tried their post surgery camisole and it worked great.  Waiting for a prothesis but want a back up option.

I have used tlc website (american cancer's non-profit "store") and they are very nice - easy to return - no restocking fees - I did find the products to be of average quality - especially the bras (vs the Amoena brand which does seem nicer/softer/better made than some of the other brands) but I think that's just a matter of opinion - the prices are great - I have one of their foam forms for when I don't want the silicone -



another site with good form prices is www.lucys.net - she says restocking fees for returns but will work with you if you are trying different sizes etc - very nice to email with - haven't actually called - bras are about same price as elsewhere though she has sales sometimes or a "buy two for" price when you buy two of same bra/size/color.



not sure what medical grade silicone means except maybe some people might have skin reaction to lesser grade?
