Starting Chemo February 2009?

The appointment with the councelor went great. I think I will really benefit from it. One of the things we discussed is the girl I mentioned earlier who is my sons friend. The pathology came back and she has a very rare type of cancer called small cell ovarian cancer. She will need to do chemotherapy. I want to support her. I need someone to tell me when I am overstepping my boundaries, neglecting myself and family, attempting to change what cannot be changed. This councelor has agreed to be my monitor.
Tomorrow I go back to my onc and discuss whether I go back on hormone therapy or not. The type of medicine, whether tamoxifen or not, depends on whether my body is menopausal. I have not had a period since before chemo and I hope I never have one again. I hope my hormone levels show I am not premenopausal any more.

Bethie - great to hear from you! Sounds like you are doing really well in school. I did some economics many many moons ago, but no sociology. Hope it goes well! Good luck with your scans, it must be scan week around here, Michele has hers too.
Cheryl - So happy it went well with the counselor. I know just having someone to tell you what you are feeling is normal can help a lot. I really hope your sons friend is going to be OK. She is lucky to have you. Are you thinking of going on an AI?? Let us know how your appointment goes.
Well guys, have a great day! Fingers crossed for everyone scanning.....
-
Bethie~ Glad to hear from you. Congratulations on getting an A
Cheryl~ Glad the therapist is going to be your monitor. She is lucky to have you helping.
Thinking of all of our ladies gettings scanned this week. We seem to have a lot of ladies going for scans ((bighugs)).
-
Thanks gang about the A!!!
Jamieh, Kerry, and all my furies!! We're looking great chere aren't--boobs and all!!
I want to do recon at some point w/lipo!!! I intend to just move my own fat--how convenient!!!!
I get my scan results Thursday hopefully!!! It was a full body PET scan!!!
Well, talk later!
-
Cheryl ~ I'm glad you're able to see a conselor. I've been thinking about seeing someone, too. Good for you for asking for accountability when setting boundaries. Good luck to you, and I surely do hope your son's friend will be ok. What a scary situation.
Jamie ~ so glad the drains are out! Praying that your body will absord the fluids and not give you anymore complications.
living4today ~ Good to hear from you! Good luck with your exchange tomorrow.
Bethie ~ School has been on my mind; I want to go, but then I get scared that I'm too old and too chemo-brained to learn anything. Hearing that you're doing well and enjoying it is very encouraging! And that's awesome news about the clear mammogram ~ woohoo!!
Huge hugs to all the Furies who are getting scans!
I'm going to try to post a picture. It's me at Stegeman Coliseum where the University of Georgia plays basketball and competes in gymnastics.
The women's basketball team had a Pink Out to raise money for the local breast health center. Breast cancer survivors were given free tickets, and we got to go on the floor at halftime to be recognized. I don't like the pink stuff, don't like being called a survivor, but hey...standing at center court was VERY cool.Anyway, this is me after the game. Look quick: it's the only time you'll see me in pink, lol!
-
Awesome pic!! Thanks for sharing!!
-
Artemis - i agree, that is a great photo. You are looking fabulous!
-
nice pic Artemis
hoping for great results Bethie
-
you are beautiful artemis!
apple~ been praying for you. are you OK?
-
Apple - will be thinking of you on the 9th. Fingers crossed all is OK - did your Onc sound excited "good" or excited "bad"??
Michele - right there with you tomorrow.
I am getting my Zometa on the 18th, having bloodwork on Friday. Then Onc appt on April 1st and a mammo the week after - I've had a nice little cancer holiday since Jan, not looking forward to all the "stuff" again.
-
i'm just irritated... both me and my onc wanted to schedule a pet and she had a ct scan done so she could justify a petscan.. but you know..
late stage III sucks but... i feel great and have a TON of work to do.. i have 2 weddings, Holy Week, a funeral, 3 students.. plus i started packing for the big move and wow.. i'm going to lose some major weight if my body holds up.. not that i need to.
The house demolition is about complete and soon the rebuilding will start.. it's very exciting.. just hope i don't have to throw more chemo in the mix.
I'm cool.. life is life. Worried about my bro who was recently diagnosed with stage III lymphoma (dam) and my sister who has to have a hopefully benign tumor removed from her liver.
we must have eaten too much lunch meat as kids while sitting in the chlordaned air.
-
I blame the DDT I ate as a kid.
Hope the PET scan is boring, boring, boring. The stress sure sucks though. Glad you are busy, it will help take your mind off it all.
Is your brother starting Chemo??
-
Hey gang- GREAT NEWS !!!! My sister called med onc after he left a message with her and GUESS WHAT???!! I'M CANCER FREE--CLEAN SCAN!!!!!
Artemis--you're not too old--you kidding me ????? You look great!!!! If possible, and can afford it, go back to school!!! I'm enjoying it!!!
Well, ladies I'm off to get some zzz--getting stuffy runny nose and sneezing--caught something from my nephew I think!!!
-
Bethie - that is fantastic news1 I am delighted for you. Now, enjoy!
-
Bethie~ That is awesome news!!!
I hope you are feeling better soon. It sounds like you got the kiddie crud
-
Thanks, Furies ~
I'm glad you liked the picture. It was a really fun event; they had a nice lunch for us, and I got to meet some wonderful BC sisters.
Kerry ~ are you having bloodwork tomorrow or on the 19th after the Zometa?
apple ~ I'm so sorry, sweetie, for all the stuff life is throwing at you right now. lol @ "too much lunch meat" But it does make you wonder, eh?
BETHIE!!! ~ WOOHOO for dancing with NED!! *happy dance* Thanks for the encouragement about school; I'm so glad you're enjoying it! I hope your sniffles and sneezes don't turn into more than that; get plenty of rest and fluids!Have a great day, everyone. I love you!

Well it's been a long week...at hospital with Julia most of the time. She just came home tonight, and while she looks so much better, they have no idea why her heart rate is so high. So now we add cardiologist to our list of docs for her. Ugh, I guess they removed her peg tube today, and they just YANKED it out, balloon and all, omg I can't believe that's how they removed it! Good thing she doesn't have a weak stomach (like me, thank god I wasn't there for that). She described as pulling a plum through a buttonhole.
I have an appt with my gyn next week, annual pap...turns out I haven't had one since 2008, just before this bc crap hit the fan, and I forgot to schedule it. I'm also going to ask for some scans, because I don't like this "doing nothing" crap, it makes me nervous.
I hope all of you who had scans this week are doing ok...sorry I wasn't here for you all.
Apple: thinking about you and your brother....
Artemis: you look wonderful, look at your hair growing in!
Cheryl: glad that the counseling is helping...hugs to Rosa...and to you, I can only imagine how hard it must be to watch someone going through this so soon after you did...
honestly, I blame the mosquito pesticide spraying trucks we used to chase down the street...who knows what we were thinking.
-
Juday - so happy to hear that Julia is home. Fingers crossed she doesn't have any new heart issues. You must just be so happy that she is home with you.
Cheryl - how is the Femara going?
Michele - if you're reading, wonderful, wonderful news!
So, off for my blood work this morning. I am sure it will be fine, but there is always that worry that something will show up. Uggg. We have my In laws staying this weekend which is nice. We are supposed to have lovely weather!
Enjoy the weekend!!
-
Judy ~ I'm glad Julia is home, and I hope the heart rate is "just one of those things" that will resolve on its own. *hugs*
I haven't had a pap since 2008 either. My onc told me not to bother last year since the readings would probably be all wonky. I'll probably go in May which was my pre-BC schedule.
My joints are aching almost 24/7, and I'm guessing it's the Tamoxifen. I had my vitamin D levels checked (been reading that low levels can cause bone pain), and they're very low so I'm taking lots of VitD now. I'd love if it would help so that I can stop taking such massive quantities of Advil.
Kerry ~ best wishes with the bloodwork, sweetie. When will you know something?I take it Michele had good scans??!!
Hugs to all,
Artemis -
Michele (I hope she dedn't mind me saying this) is exclusively dating NED.
Kerry- I hope your bloodwrk is perfect.
Artemis- I had joint pain als so it could be the herceptin also.
I am dragging thru the week. I have a triple whammy this week a cold, fluid and Aunt Flo. So even with these concerns I am still feeling better each day. I am hoping that I just keep improving dailey.
Finally this weekend we are supposed to get a little warmer. I hope the trend will continue. I am ready for summer. -
Oh, Jaimie, hope you feel better soon. No Auntie Flo is really one of my silver linings....yuck, couldn't even imagine it now.
So, they still can't get blood out of my Chemo-arm vein - she had to take it out of my hand. The lab I go to is in my Oncs building, so I am guessing if anything is amiss I will hear early next week.
Just had a lovely long walk, this weather is so nice!
Jaimie - we are starting a new Fitness challenge for March if you want to join in! (anyone else too)
-
hi everyone!
Artemis~ I *did* have clean scans last week!!!
Kerry~ TM or what?
Jaimie~ So, AF is back?? Mine is still missing. Onc says I'm post-menopausal. I'm 38 so I'm worried that my cycles will return. time will tell!
Judy~ I had a pap before chemo (1/09) and am scheduled for one this month. I have a history of abn paps so no putting it off. frankly, I want it all GONE. ovaries and everything. I'm going to discuss it with my gyn.
happy saturday!
xxoo
-
yes..
!
-
Michele~ Yes my body this year for Christmas gave me Aunt Flo....the year before I got my BC diagnosis....NEXT Christmas I have already requested no gift from my body..... The good thing is I think there is starting to be a pattern so I can be prepared.
Kerry~ I will be popping in over at the fitness thread. I will be starting to walk this week and start with hand weights. I need to get some kind of exercise going.
Thanks for the Pap reminder. I am not looking forward to it but I guess I gotta do what I gotta do. Now I just gotta go beg for an appt. I love my GYN thought so I will wait. She delivered both of my babies and really has treated me well.
-
Hey gang!! I've got a surprise for you. Attempted to upload my new photo but it didn't work cause the extension on the photo is bmp as opposed to gif or jpg. How do I convert bmp images to either jpg or gif so you can see my new photo?
-
figured it out after previous post!!! That's my girlfriend with me. How do you like my new locks????
-
Hi Bethie, you are looking great!
Jaimie - have you looked at the SparkPages website?? We have been logging our daily exercise there, it really helps by keeping track of it. And at the end of the month, Mary sends us all a prize!! The team is called striving to Thrive - heres the link
http://www.sparkpeople.com/myspark/groups_individual.asp?gid=40481&gcode=glwffqjlfw
I need a Pap too, but have been putting it off. Had my last one at my Pre-Op physical.
Off to a Maple Syrup Festival in a local conservation area today! It is going to be warm (ish!) and sunny, so it will be nice to get out into some fresh air. Enjoy the day everyone.
-
I will check them out sometime today. Thanks Kerry. That festival sounds yummy....
Bethie~ You look so cute.
It looks like we are going to finally get a little warm today so I can't wait to get somethings done outside that I have been putting off.
-
i'm having scanxiety big time.. that soft tissue remark has me worried. I might not be a hair keeper after all.
-
((bighug)) Apple~ You are going to be a hair keeper..... When is your Pet ??
So my outside work isn't happening instead I have been learning how to make spaghetti
...lol... I have been learning to cook in the last month and it is scarey what I have been able to accomplish.
