Recurrence after bilat mastectomy?
Comments

I had a lump kind of under the DIEP flap. The oncologist checked it and he said it was a fatty necrosis. He said it is very common in flap reconstruction. Its just a small area (pea sized in my case) that didn't take. I hope yours turns out to be the same thing.

Trisha, have you heard anything yet?......
-
Trisha and JDscents how are you getting on? Please post and let us know how you are doing. JD you are the same age as my daughter - way too young for this terrible disease - your posts really struck a chord - praying everyone is OK - this is a scary thread....

Hi ladies,
I had my lump removed today. I will hopefully have the results of the biopsy by Friday. It may be Monday though. The radiologist and my bs both thought it looked like a lymph node on the us. But she wasn't so sure when she removed it today. It was a a nodule in the fat, that was pretty smooth and greyish/whitish and opaque. My bs still felt it was benign, which is good.
So...now it is the lovely waiting game. I'll keep you all posted.

Hello,
I had a bilateral mastectomy with LAT flap reconstruction and expanders in Sept 2009 after having 6 cycles of chemo. I was supposed to have my exchange surgery on April 12, but I recently found a large "lump" right above my foob on the side where my cancer started. I have been in now to have 2 needle aspirations. The first came back "suspicious" of malignency. Just had the second one done yesterday and they put a rush on the results, but I am still waiting. I have been waiting for the last 2-3 weeks to have this diagnosed-I started with a visit with my family doctor and an ultrasound that showed 4 masses. The mass that I can feel is very large and it is between the muscle in my chest. The Dr thinks it may be in my lymph nodes, but it just does not make sense because they took out a large area around my breast tissue when the mastectomy was done and everything came out negative, including my lymph nodes under my arm. I am so worried and scared and the waiting has just been killing me. I look at my 3 year old daughter every day and I can't imagine not being here for her. If I do have cancer again I am ready to fight, I just can't believe how soon this is to my first diagnosis. I am really hoping it is nothing, but my doctors have not given me a lot of alternatives. Has anyone else had a lump appear in the lymph nodes in the chest wall, above the breast near the collar bone?? Thanks everyone for all of your posts, it makes me feel better knowing I am not alone. The good news is I have an excellent team of doctors taking care of me and the mass is not attached to any nerves or blood vessels so it is operable. Wish me luck. I hope to hear tomorrow from my Dr, I don't think I can handle another week-end without knowing.

Our results are BOTH BENIGN!! YAYAYAYAYAY!
Mine was an inclusion cysts (never heard of it before) and Mandi's was fibrocystic changes. She has to have a follow up mammo in 6 months because there was some atypia, but the doc is confident that all will be well.
I am SO SO SO relieved!
-
Kristian - We are all here rooting for you!! Let us know when you find out what's going on. I am sending out all kinds of hopeful vibes to you!!
Trishia - That is just so cool!!!!
-
Trishia, great to hear your good news.
Thanks for the good vibes. Unfortunately I did not get the results today so now I have to worry through the week-end. I don't think I have been this stressed out before. My patience level is down to zero and I am so frustrated. I guess I have to wait until Monday
-
Kristai, good luck on your results..Praying for B9!......
Trishia, congrats on B9 results!...Always glad to hear good news....... -
Well, I wish I could say I had good news. I got the call today that my mass is cancer. I meet with my oncologist tomorrow to go over the pathology report. I want to get started on treatment right away because I don't like the size of my tumour. So, I guess recurrence after a bilateral mastectomy is possible within 16 months of original diagnosis. Bummer!
-
Kristian - I am so sorry!!! I don't know how to tell you, but my heart and my prayers and my thoughts are going out to you!! Please know that we are all here for you!! Hugs!!!!!
-
I think I am next had all the scans and today doing ultrasound and mamo.Find out tomorrow.I also have large lumps near my incision scars. The one on my cancer side is very tender to the touch.I have a very bad feeling that I will be joining this club.
-
Aww, Kristian..Sorry to hear the news......Hope all goes well at the onc's office.....
Mumayan, I hope all goes well for you too......
Hugs to all who need it........... -
Large lumps turned out to be hematomas that I can have drained.Scans were clear only showed Arthritis. Now I can relax and enjoy my summer.(((prayers and hugs))Kristian I hope your treatments start soon.
-
Mum - I am very pleased for you!
Kristian - I am sending all the best to you!

I didn't think it was common to have a reocurrence after BMX. I am really hoping the lumpiness I found is just scar tissue! This cancer thing sucks!!!!!
-
hi everyone~ I too had bilat with silicone implants and now I have found a 1/2 size of a BB but not near any incisions it is very hard. I have to go see the oncologist on Monday. I don't know what to think. I thought this was all over and I had this behind me. I don't know what it will be but I am hoping for good news. I have one question ....if it is cancer and they have to remove it ...do they remove your implant too? Any ideas for me.
Positively~ Balsie

I visit my onco tomorrow. I'm really hoping that it's just scar tissue from my biopsies. Although, I don't know how that could be since most of my tissue was removed with the BMX. It is right above where my biopsy scars are. This sucks!!
Kristian - I'm so sorry to hear that you have cancer again! This disease is so awful! ((hugs))
-
Balsie - I hope they don't remove the implant if they find cancer! I hope you get good news!
-
Kristen~ What are they doing for treatment? Do you have to do Chemo again....I have an appt. on Monday...so we shall see. So sorry you have to go through this again. I am just sick, so I know how you feel.
warmly,
Balsie

I saw the onco and got an ultrasound today. They said I have a solid mass. Not sure what it is, but I have an appt with the breast surgeon on Monday. Should get a biopsy on Tuesday. God I hate this disease. I thought it was over. I hope it is.
-
((((hugs prayers)) Kittycat good luck on your biopsy hope your results come back fast.
-
Hey Kittycat,
I really hope they can get some news to you soon, sorry to hear you are going through this. I hate this disease too. Hang in there, I had to wait about 4 weeks after first finding the lump to get a diagnosis, I had an ultrasound and two needle aspirations. The waiting is hard-send some posts if you need to talk. There is also a great discussion called "The Waiting Room", it is in the "Not Diagnosed with recurrence or mestastases but concerned" discussion group. It's great, a lot of women have posted on it and there are a lot of positive results, most of the lumps women find are B9-you will be one of them! Take care, I'll be thinking of you
Hey Balsie,
Good luck on Monday, I hope it is nothing, and if they do have to do tests, keep your chin up, I hear that 80% of all lumps found are B9. I do not have a treatment plan yet, I met with a surgical oncologist on Friday and he did not have my CT scan results back-I can't have an MRI because of the metal component in my expanders. My tumour is imbeded in muscle above my right breast, in my lymph nodes. It is large and is restricting me from moving my arm, so he thinks it may be too invasive to just do surgery and remove it. He thinks I will need chemo and radiation. I have to wait until Tuesday to find out. I just want to get the ball rolling on this. I don't have to have my implant removed due to the location of the tumour, I don't know if they do that. It's so hard when you are waiting, I self diagnosed a lot but you really won't know the answers until you get them from your Doctors. It is just the waiting game that bites. Please let us know what happens and good luck!
Kristian

Kristian- I hope they can come up with a treatment plan for you soon. So, do you have the tissue expanders in (sorry if I missed that). Thanks for the encouragement!!!
Balsie - good luck on your appts next week. I'll be thinking good thoughts for you (and me too).
-
Thanks everyone for you positive thoughts. I hope all goes well for everyone! It is a waiting game. I guess I just thought this was over when I choose a bilat mx. I have a family party to go to today...so I have to act like everything is great and in a way that keeps me thinking positive. You are all in my thoughts : )
warmly

I am so glad that I found this site. I have to say you are a brave an encouraging group. I am so sorry for those that are going through this. I had a biopsy last Wednesday and am awaiting the results. I was hoping they would call Friday and I am sitting here debating making the call. They found a 3cm lump in the left axilla. I have had bmx in 2007, 8 rounds of chemo and unfinished reconstruction due to insurance complications. My husband of 26 years who is chronically ill left me and my boys 3 weeks ago. Enough is enough. The dr's tried to do the "nothing to worry about" but then said I need to see the oncologist. I am trying to be positive because I am by nature. I am overwhelmed and it is nice to talk to other women that understand. Thanks and you are all in my thought. :-)

1st of all beckymom my heart goes out to you~you have a lot on your plate. I had my appt, today with the oncololgist....after the exam he set me up for an ultra sound at the breast clinic on Friday. He didn't seem to be to worried about it but at the same time wanted to be sure...depending the outcome of that he will have it biopsied. I am thinking positive.
Hope all is well for all~
positively,
Balsie

I had a BMX 26 months ago after being DX with micro invasion in one breast. It's back.
Good thoughts going your way....
ps. I *HATE* cancer. period. No matter the stage. And people who think DCIS isn't "real" cancer should REALLY learn what they are talking about.
-
Beckymom - I'm so sorry to hear about your husband. You've got so much going on, but I admire your tenacity to move forward and fight this! You have a great attitude!
Balsie - I really hope you have good news. Good luck with your ultrasound. I hope it's nothing!
Lisa - I hear you on the cancer thing. My gyn onco said to me that some doctors don't even consider DCIS cancer. He does, but he said the good part of it is that I qualified for a drug trial for osteoporosis. After spending the day in full blown surgery to excise 3 lumps 8 months after my bmx. Hopefully it's not cancer, but all of will always have that higher risk of cancer, even at lower stages. -
Trishia: Just reading thru some sites and see you had a scare... Sorry you had to go thru that, but glad it was benign. Since we spoke last, I've had my nipples reconstructed... Waiting for time to pass to get the tattoos now.
I've had a lot of pain in my 'cancerous boob' the last few days. I'm hoping that's normal. Don't go to oncologist until May. Someone said it may be nerves growing back. I'm hoping!
