Should I Proceed with Surgery if Wound Not Yet Healed?

Ok,  I wonder if anyone has any advice -

As you all know, I had a less than pleasant experience with my MRI guided biopsy two weeks ago, where they busted an artery during one of the biopsies.  Despite my BS checking it out last Thursday, pronouncing that it was not infected, and putting new steristrips on it, it is STILL bleeding - oozing blood quite a bit - and the steristrips are completing saturated.  I am compelled to wear a bandage over the wound each day and night to prevent staining of my clothes and bra.  My surgery is scheduled for this Friday, 1/16 and I really do NOT want to go ahead with it if this wound is still bleeding and apparently not healing as it should.  I called my BS today and got her answering service, since she is in another city today.  I made an appt to see her tomorrow at 3:15 for her to check the wound.  Now, do you think it is a good decision to postpone surgery once again since this wound in the other breast is not healing?  Any input would be appreciated.

thanks so much - a very annoyed and angry Maria!

    Maria-

Your biopsy sucked but I don't understand why you want to postpone surgery in the other breast. Maybe I am missing something but it seems like then both breasts could heal at once and you would be done. Good luck,

Hi, Baywatcher and fellow Floridian -

You have a point - indeed, a very valid one.  I am just nervous because this wound has been bleeding/oozing for two weeks now, which I understand is normal for a busted artery.  It is not gushing, but just very sore and uncomfortable.  BS did not seem particularly concerned - when I saw her last Thursday and replaced the steristrips, she said to keep them on for a week.  So, tomorrow, when I see her, I anticipate that she will remove them and replace them with a fresh strip.  We shall see - and thanks for the input!

I would suggest having the surgey NOW, not wait, this way both of your wounds will heal together.

    Don't wait PLEASE....

    Thanks, Ingrid -

I had a long chat with my BS this afternoon and she calmed me down about it - said it takes a long time for an arterial tear to heal and they will take care of it at the hospital on Friday.

Again, to all, thanks for the great advice - time to get this thing over with!

    Blessings - Maria
