This is so nutty, every few minutes I feel like I AM SUPPOSE to go out and smoke. Going to watch tv and eat.
-
Hey Janzin!
Go to a good spot in your apt where you feel the most calm. Make yourself comfortable. Close your eyes and clear your mind. Imagine a blank chalk board if that helps. Now think to yourself. I am not a smoker. I do not smoke. I have never smoked. Do this over and over for about 15 minutes. First thing before you do this, destroy that cig. Dump and clean all of the ash trays and put them in hard to reach places (back of shelf in closet) or if you have no sentimental attachment, throw them in the trash, tie it and carry it off.
Every time you get a twinge, repeat your mantra. Do your meditation as many times a day as you need to. Reinforce the fact that you do not smoke. Get some hard candy (sugarfree if need be) to suck on to replace having that cig. If you don't want candy, do gum. You do not smoke, Janzin is not a smoker. Eventually you won't even have to reinforce these thoughts because they will come naturally. You don't need luck because I know you can do it!
Nancy, Pat, Susann
PS. Forgot to say, best wishes!

Sorry Pat, I ran downstairs and grabbed that pack. I am so weak! I grab one and threw on my neighbors balcony so I can't do that again. They say you can start over every hour so I am starting all over at 9:20am. I will meditate on quitting!
Good luck to the rest of you. It may take work but we can do it!!

Went for a hour and 20 minute hike, feel better. Great thing was when I was hiking I didn't even think about cigs. I am doing this hour by hour. Over 3 hours smober. Going to eat grapes and watch a little tv and then find something to do.
Come on we can do this.
Grrrrrrrr.....Janet -
Yea Janet!!! One hour at a time is TERRIFIC...I am soooo happy for you. Yes! We can do this, once craving, one hour and one day at a time! May not be fun...but we have each other to lean on
BIG GENTLE HUGS

I am thiking about those frosted suger cookies, AAAHHHHHHHH!
-
Can't wait for pill time.
-
Hang in there Janet.
My mantra is Life, Children, Re-construction......not very romantic or smooth-flowing, but the truth. Are you using the chantix getquit support on line? If not, sign up. getquit.com, I believe.
There are some excellent suggestions the last few pages of this thread. Ya know, I am carrying a pack of cigarettes in my purse and if I choose to smoke, I will and I can, but I am just riding the cravings out...pretty empowering, as I have never been able to do that before. I am sure the chantix is helping, though!
Welcome to the newbies that have posted- my brain does not work well enough to remember your names, but I thank you for sharing your experiences with us and please stick around.
Pantafus- welcome home friend! Please rest and follow the doctors orders.
Ladies- I am proud of each of you and am keeping you guys in my thoughts.

I WANT SOME F_CKING COOKIES!!!!
-
Ok, well I had 6 smokes left after the party last night, and I am currently going out to smoke the last one. I have cooked and made PLENTY of snacks to gorge on tonight while I am inside watching tv. I will not lie, I will probably sake a sleeping pill early (like 8:00) so I can just go to be early and wake up with over 12 of being smoke free under my belt.
Pantufas.....YIPPEE, I am so glad to hear from you. Please, please tell me the horrid lung story, I can use everything possible to help me quit.
Bottom line is (and I keep telling myself and my husband this) we can't afford this. Financially, I can think of better ways to spend $15 a day and we can't afford the long term effects this does to our body.
Janzin--stick with me, one hour at a time. I am hear for you. Michelle, are you with us? Jules, where are you at?????
Love,
Ellie

Well I broke down again! All my neighbors smoke. Think I will go buy those cookies. New quitting time is 2:20pm. Thanks MB, I will check out that line.
-
Don't feel bad Janzin. My last smoke was 2 hours ago and I already bitched at my dh. He spilled ice cubes on the floor and I guess he figures since they are just made out of water, no need to pick them up, which is nice when I come walking in the kitchen into big puddles wearing just my socks. It would be so much easier to quit with him not around. No offense, but my smoking makes me tolerate him MUCH better....heehee.....
Let's get through this first night. Keep posting.

Hi All! I am cranky and having a pity party this afternoon...its bad enough my chest and pits still feel WEIRD (skin is tender/hurts to the touch and burning, tingling sensations with an odd gurgle here and there just for fun) - still trying to get used to the TE's and I want these drains out NOW!!!
In addition to that I started my PERIOD today and now I have CRAMPS!!!! WTH!!!! Can't a girl get a break!!!
Ellie: I am TOTALLY with you guys!
Janet: Did you get your cookies yet?
Pantafus: Have I told you how glad I am you are back...YIPEE!!! WOOOHOOO!
Ellen: Love your attitude - it is not only breaking a habit but changing how you think how smoking!
MB: Thanks for the website - I can use all the resources I can find.
My support leader has said many times that for years our subconscious has been trained to trigger the need to smoke when in specific situations and when bored or anxious. In some of my earlier posts I used to complain that I felt like Sybil - always arguing with my subconscious to get rid of the old training.
It's not easy to quit smoking under the best circumstances and here we are in the biggest fight of our lives - battling breast cancer - physically, emotionally and mentally under assault with procedures, drugs, and for some of us chemo/radiation...no wonder we can sometimes slide. What's important is we are still here and we keep trying to kick the habit!

I haven't been posting much lately, but I want everyone to know I've been thinking of you all. I've been lurking alot! Trying to keep up with all the posts.
Hope everyones doing good with the July 5th quit smoking. I'm still smoking, but still hoping to one day lay down the cigs for good!
Sending hugs to the ones trying to quit, the ones who have quit and the ones who hope to quit!
-
That's the spirit! Keep on fighting for a triumphant victory.
-
Ok, well today will be the first full day for a LOT of us. Trying to do what Candie and REKoz have been doing. Started out ok, I got my first cup of coffee and headed straight to the lanai, then I stopped, turned around and headed into the den. I do not need to be outside right now since I won't be lighting up. Please deal with me if I post a lot this week, this is one of my things to do instead of smoke.
Best of luck to all my quitters out there!

Ellie-
hang in there Lady...when a craving hits, I try to just really relax my shoulders, back, and take a slow inhale of fresh air through my nose then out of my mouth- do it a few times and hopefully the craving will pass.
good morning ladies....hope all of you are doing well.

Hey fellow sufferers! First of all WELCOME BACK PANTAFUS!! Damn girl, you had us all sorts of nervous about you! Don't EVER do that again,...got it?
OK so, this day has begun smoke free and I just got a call for my pre op testing. It will be on the 17th and I cannot have ANY nicotine in this body. So, I shall continue on as one who does not need smokes. ARGHHHH... bitch, bitch, bitch, I can't wait for this to be over.,,the craving I mean. But it is getting a tad better.
Keep up the good work everyone!
xoxo

Thanks Mbscruggs, I will try that. Maybe I can take up meditation.
Rekoz, you are doing great! What do you have in now, over a week? That is awesome!
Today is going fine so far (it is only 9:15 though). Had my morning coffee without the smoke, that was fine.....went for a LONG walk, good stuff. Haven't been hit with a bad craving yet, but I am sure it will come.
Janet, Jules, Michelle, how are you guys doing today?
-
Good morning everyone. Pantufas SO happy to see you back on here! Well, I hope everyone had a very Happy 4th! I see that it's been a rough start...but we are all going to DO THIS! Congrats to all of those who have a couple days under their belts! My hats off too those of you who have just started, because I know it's very hard, and in 2 days I will be joining you! YIKES!
O2B I hope you have a better day today, and that you aren't in so much pain!
Janz....get your cookies
REKoz...keep up the good spirits and you will do this!
MSC, as Janz said, you are in the right spot, so WELCOME!
Ok, well I hope everyone has a wonderful day, and even if the day is actually a horrible crappy day, try to find the good moments (they're always there!)
Much Love To All!!!

Hi Fifish, that's funny about the ice cubes. Yup, cigs makes us tolerate people better at times. I am doing the same thing as you, switching up my routine and avoiding my balcony where I use to smoke.
REKoz I hope you are doing the same thing. It's nice when you don't even think about it but wow, those urges make an ache in my throat. Deep breathing seem to help that ache. I think the biggest thing I smoke on right now is fear. I should meditate too and work on myself as a person and address my fears. You hit with fellow sufferers.
So far I am doing good today, my home is PACKED with munchies. I woke up and looked at my kitchen and there is NO WAY I can eat it all. Have to laugh about it now. Never shop when you are having a nicotine fit! Bought 2 boxes of cookies and bag the other today and put them in the freezer. Will go on a real long hike for that out of control binge.
o2bhealthy, hang in there with your drains. They are the worst part. You will feel much better when they are out. Wow, 61 days is awesome, do you ever have a bad urge?
2NewBoobs, glad you are still here. I know you will jump on our wagon when the time is right!
Butterfly, thanks for your support. My advice is to go shopping before you quit, lol.
Pantufas, happy you are back. I hope your recover soon. We will have more fun stories!
I end up smoking 4 yesterday but feel a little better today. Remember stay away from our trigger points and take deep breathes.
Grrrrrrr!
Janet -
Ok, so far so good. I have had a couple small urges, but nothing too major. I am glad that it is REALLY hot outside because that makes me want to stay in and smoking was never allowed inside. Maybe I will go for a swim. Maybe I will just take a LONG nap.
Janzin that is funny about the munchies. My dh and I did the same thing yesterday.....only he cut up celery, watermelon, pineapple and carrots and I made oatmeal cookies....heehee......But, I have been hitting his snacks all day. Hopefully if I eat to get through my urge, I can at least try and eat fruit or veggies. We will just see how long that lasts.....I have a feeling I will be stuffing my face with sweets in the middle of the night.
I took an over the counter sleeping pill last night and that helped. I am taking more tonight. Don't worry, this is only to get me through being able to sleep during the first week of quitting.
Good luck to all the quitters. Keep posting so I can read how you are all doing!

That's funny you did the same thing Fifish. I look like I could feed a family of 8. I usually never eat crackers and I bought some cheeses I never tried before and 2 boxes of crackers, wonder if I could stick them in the freezer too. Glad your doing pretty good. I went for a really steep hike, had to stop 4 times to rest but believe me, you don't think about smoking at all.
So today is better and I find if I stay busy I don't think about it as much. So I am going to sign up for salsa tonight. I could of started back again a while ago but my ego got in the way. Felt fat and out of shape and felt uncoordinated from sitting on the computer all the time. Well.......time to get out. That's is another place I don't think about smoking, and maybe I will work off the cookies and a kitchen that could feed a bear.
Check back in ReKoz and Fifish, we will get through this. And Jules, are you still with us? I'll hunt you down in FB!
Janet -
Well, just got out of the pool, that was tough. I LOVED to smoke while floating around in the pool. Oh well, time to start making dinner. I have the pork chops marinating and I need to get the sweet potatoes ready for the grill.
Janet, I wish I could take salsa lessons! That sounds like fun. I could take them, but we live out in the country so it would be a hike even if I could find some in town. heehee.....I should ask my dh to do it with me, then we could go to dinner and make a night out of it..........right, like that would happen......more later.......
-
Fifish, that is WHY you have to visit me, lol. You are going to be proud of me, making orange roughy tacos tomorrow with mango salsa. So far still smber, how about you?
-
Hey ladies...keep it up!!!!! Proud of both of you!
Much Love To All!
-
Janet: ooooh! I want fishy taco's with mango salsa...can I come over? You're only a half days drive from me
Yes! I still have moments where I want a cig...ie on the 4th someone was smoking within my proximity and I was jonesing...
Ellie: wish I could go swimming with you, we could float around an commiserate about dealing with these darn cravings...
Jules: where are you? Hope you are doing ok...
All my other non-smoking and soon to be non-smoking buddies- sending you all Big Supportive Hugs!
-
o2bheathy, you are always welcomed!!! You too Butterfly!
Having a bad urge, trigger point is work, lol.
Breathe.........breathe! How you doing FIfish?
