Pagetoid Extension into ducts

I was diagnosed with IDC on 12/16/08.  After an MRI, I had an another stereostatic biopsy of another area.  It was essentially benign, however the surgeon is very concerned about the "Atypical lobular hyperplasia with Pagetoid extension into ducts" in the Pathology report.  We were to do a lumpectomy followed by radiation for the IDC next Tuesday.  Now he wants to confer with the oncologist, and radiologist again and says he may present it to the tumor board.  That doesn't give me a lot of confidence.  I haven't had any treatment as yet, and just want to be done with the whole thing.  I am leaning toward a mastectomy with reconstruction after getting a second opinion.  Has anyone else had any experience with the Pagetoid extensions?  Thank you for your help.

Hi Paula,

I had a 4mm idc and 1 mm idc and dcis.  My pathology report read that there was Pagetoid spread in one of the tissue blocks.

When I asked my rads oncologist about what it meant...she just said "pagetoid spread" is just what the cells look like under the microscope. It is not Pagets Disease. And...told me not to worry.
