Face Cream?
Hello all
I am currently going through Chemo....face is horribly dry and I'm starting to see alot of wrinkles....question is, I bought some face cream, then I hear that some creams have hormones in them...my cancer is hormone receptive....I also read that face cream does enter your blood system.
Soooo, how do you find out which face creams have hormones in them....there is really nothing on the label of mine. Think it's Garnier Fruitiesse Skin Renewing......does anyone have a recommendation as to what creme to use?
Luv, Hugs and prayers

Hi Deb:
Someone on this board recommended Burt's Bees Radiance Day Creme. I bought it and think it's wonderful! I googled the website to determine its ingredients and, from what I can gather, no estrogens are present. It does contain Royal Jelly, which I think is probably the magic ingredient.
Good luck!

Anything you put on your skin goes into your bloodstream...not just face cream. Our skin is our largest organ. Put a clove of garlic between your toes and you will taste it within 15-30 minutes...that is because it got into your bloodstream.
Certain ingredeints (chemicals) act as xenoestrogrens in our bodies. In other words, they mimic estrogen. Things like mineral oil and petroleum are the biggest culprits and you will find they are in 95% of the products on the market in the United states! Why? Because it is cheap and we live in a buyer beware society.
Do your research...find a company you can trust. That is what I did. Look for botanical BASED products. Not products that are mineral oil based with botanicals in them. The more natural you can get, the better! There are very few products that are 100% natural out there.

Would you be willing to share the names of some of the products you've found and like?

I used the J-A-S-O-N line during chemo and off and on since. I don't know about hormones being in products, but their line is paraben free which is a bigger concern to me. You will probably want to avoid soy products if you're ER+.

Well I found the Burt's Bees Radiance Day Creme that Linda suggested and said worked good on Ebay so went ahead and ordered some of it........maybe it will work.....guess I will give the Garnier Fruitisse to my daughter.....the 30 yr old who swears she has wrinkles.......LOL.......let ya all know how I like this when I get it!

Hi Deb,
SkinDeep.com is the best place for you to check your products for toxicity and ingredients used in your personal care products. They have a cosmetics database that tells you whether your products are carcinogenic. You definitely want to choose organic and natural products that will help you relieve dryness and won't harm you. You are right, our skin "drinks" whatever we put on it so we have to be careful.
As a Hodgkin's Disease survivor and caregiver to my father who battled colon cancer for 8 years I could find little information on the side effects of cancer treatment, like dry skin which both my father and I suffered from during chemo as well. So I started www.cincovidas.com; a resource for cancer patients and caregivers that deals with the side effects of chemo and radiation treatment on the hair skin and nails.
I did a post on how to hydrate your skin naturally through certain foods http://blog.cincovidas.com/chemo-left-you-with-dry-flaky-skin-foods-can-boost-hydration-naturally .
I also did a post on ways to heal your skin with organic products that I have found to be of great help http://blog.cincovidas.com/chemotherapy-side-effect-dry-itchy-skin.
I hope that these help. Please keep me posted on how you are doing or if I can find any other resources for you.
Love, strength and survival,
Britta
