Below is the report from Ann Fonfa's presentation at Ridgewood, NJ CARE meeting. --Anom D

Our guest speaker for the evening was Ann Fonfa of the Annie Appleseed Project. She traveled from southern Florida to join us and we were very pleased to have her with us. Her personal story begins with a diagnosis of breast cancer in 1993. Being very chemically sensitive she was not comfortable with her doctor's opinion that she could have the same treatment regimen as everyone else (chemo and radiation).  Instead she began to attend medical meetings in 1995. By 1997 she was at stage four, with the cancer spreading into the chest wall. She had a double mastectomy and still has lymphoma issues. However, eleven years later, she has no metastases.

Ann did make a point of mentioning that she has had a long history of chronic constipation. She found out that 50% of breast cancer occurs in the left breast at the 2 o'clock position, which corresponds to the digestion meridian. Please check out her website http://www.annieappleseedproject.org/ and go to the section on constipation. Constipation leads to higher estrogen levels because the bowels help excrete the excess estrogen thrown off by the liver (and with constipation it is re-absorbed, as noted below).  She said that she has done many coffee enemas and highly recommends them. Coffee enemas stimulate the bile duct to help the liver detoxify faster. A detox she noted was to use coriander to get metals out of tissues and into the bloodstream, then two hours later use chlorella to get it out of the bloodstream and into avenues of elimination.*

Ann recommends acupuncture and Chinese herbs, which she has used for years. She exercises daily. She primarily eats organic foods, even when traveling and noted that there was a vote in Italy to go totally organic within the next two years. She drinks 8 oz. of the juice of apples, ginger, and greens daily. Spices recommended are frankincense, myrrh, and curcumin (anti-inflammatory).

Ann also recommends to eat grass-fed meats and free-range poultry. Your meals should not contain servings of antibiotics and hormones. Microwaving food destroys much of its benefit. Plants die if watered with microwaved water. Her breakfast consists of bananas, kiwis, and dried fruits like dates and raisins. The Dean Ornish program of veggies, stress reduction, and exercise has had a thirty years of success.

Ann supports the idea of using marijuana for medical applications. Cancer cells have cannabanoid receptors. Marijuana can be a possible help for neuropathy caused by treatments. Marijuana inhibits the development of blood vessels (angiogenesis). White button mushrooms are aromatase inhibitors. Ann uses 5000 IU of D3 daily. Breast cancer is more common in the north due to lack of sun exposure. D2 is from plants. D3 is from animals.

Ann did an iodine test and found she was deficient. She uses Iodoral. (See http://www.breastcancerchoices.org/ for more information.) Japanese have a diet consisting of 24 mg. of iodine and they do not have the cancer rates that we have. You can do an iodine self-test: rub a silver-dollar-sized area on your arm with iodine tincture. If it is still there 24 hours later, you are low on iodine. Iodoral is the preferred supplement for iodine.

Ann made a point of saying that we are all different. Her story reflects her own choices. What works for her may not work for you. Ann did not recommend choosing a cancer treatment that goes against your belief system.
