well we just joined this club nobody wants in but I have learned a lot moer about BC than I ever wanted. My wife had a lumpectomy last week and they removed a section of left breast 12.5 x 6.5 x 2.5. That seems like a lot but I don't know how much there is in there. The pathology report said there are wide clear margins on all but the one side close to the chest wall and it is about 1 mm. We see an oncologist next after she heals some but she hears sloshing noises from the fluid build up. Is that a normal thing? The idea of maybe a re-excision or radiation or maybe a mascectomy scares me (and her) but we'll find out more after seeing the oncologist. I say we because it may be her body but we are in this together, rain or shine or her black side humor. I thank all the ladies who are on this site sharing what they went through or are going. It helps to know there is understanding people out there.

Your wife is certainly lucky to have a husband that cares to be included in this journey.  Do you have a follow up appt with the surgeon?  If not, please call and let them know your concern regarding the "sloshing noise"  as there might be a thing called a seroma (fluid buildup) and it might have to be drained.  FYI I am not a doctor or nurse so please call so they can determine what may be going on.

We see the oncologist on Jan 9 for first visit. Sloshing stopped and incision is healing good.

Hang in there inthis2.  I don't know how I would have made it without the love and support of my husband.  You can be a immense comfort to your wife throughout this.

We saw the oncolgist Friday morning. Answered lot of questions, seems like a good doctor and has been recommended by several we know. Put wife on Arimidex since she had hyster. a few years ago. Have read all kinds of SEs that don't sound good. Has anyone had positive experience with this drug? Next step is to see radiology oncologist, then onto what ever is determined best. This is a really scary disease but some of the cures seem scary also. One lady told wife she will have a crappy first year then will be OK. I hope and pray for a short year, but we'll do what is needed.

I found the lump which felt like a quarter end Sept.  Mammo & US highly suspicious.  Surgeon did 2 core biopsies both high-grade DCIS and one stated can't rule out microinvasion (told to me verbally). I don't have the pathology report yet -- I get it tomorrow at my last meeting before surgery. I also had bone scan, CT scan (cysts liver and ovary), and bilateral MRI w/contrast confirming malignancy multi-centric.

I would recommend considering a reincision. I had 2 lumpectomies. The first one did not have clear margins and the second did and was confirmed all of the cancer was removed. I just finished 36 radiation treatments and am now officially cancer free and a Survivor. My husband's support was very important in my journey. I would recommend the book: "How To Help Your Wife (and yourself) Through Diagnosis, Treatment & Beyond" by Marc Silver. Hopefully this will help you support your wife as well as help you deal with this unfortunate disease and journey.

goodmorning amsn2, when is or was surgery? What did path report show? How are you doing?

PrayWarrior, the surgion, pathologist, oncologist and radiation oncologist all talked and agree they are sure it is gone. Also said they would have to get into chest wall if they went further, which they don't want to do. Been on Arimidex for 2 weeks now with no real noticable SE. Had visit with radiation oncolgist and radiation people last week. Got the CT scan and tattoos, scheduled for setup Monday and start 33 radiation treatments Tuesday. The radiation people have several trained or have worked at M D Anderson in Houston. We are very fortunate that there was no sign of MI. We are finding quite a few people around here that this ugly disease affects.

Hi! I hope your wife is doing okay and I had to giggle when I read about the slooshing noise! I was diagnosed with DCIS high grade 12.5x11.5 near my chest wall in  November 08! When I had the lumpectomy done, the surgeon told my husband that there would be a slooshing noise but not to be worried that it was pretty common! With having  mine done as an outpatient,being all drugged up ,I didn't remember anything the surgeon said! On the 3rd day I get up and i hear like a water ballon noise! Since we live on a boat my first thought is water leak, so i proceed to check all around to find the leak!!!! Well as I am bending over to shut the water off I realize WOW That is my boob making this noise OMG! So I am scared to death and home alone so I call my husband and i'm just in a panic and I tell him "Honey Im slooshing " and he says "the surgeon told you it would happen ! So after calming down I had to laugh at myself and now Im called Sloooshy
