hot flashes

I am on my 6 chemo treatment and have 2 more to go.  I am in chemo menopause and wake up in the middle of the night with night sweats.  I am not a big fan of synthetic medicine and was wondering if anyone knows of an herbal remedy.

Hi, if you could find a good acupuncturist, it may be very helpful for you.  a bunch of gals here have found it so.

I would be very careful with "natural" or herbal remedies.  Many of them contain plant estrogen and if you are ER pos, you DON"T want that.

Your onc is the one to talk to about natural/herbal remedies.  If he is not informed, please ck out alternative treatment here on the boards.  Lots of good info there.

I don't know of an herbal remedy, but I have been keeping my ceiling fan going, and when it gets bad I get up and get a glass of mineral water from a bottle out of the fridge. I swear by it--something about the bubbles. I get San Pellegrino from Trader Joe's.

I was having bad night sweats as well - I as waking up drenched with the sheets soaked.  I now keep the room chillier than I would normally like and wear my summer, light weight pajamas and keep the fan going.  Even though it feels a little cold when I first go to bed - it seems to keep the night sweats from being as severe.

I have not found any advice on herbal remedies.

the chillopillow is supposed to be very helpful as well.  There are also moisture wicking night clothes that are on the market.  Just cannot remember the names.

I have a fan on a floor stand with a remote control.  It is wonderful to throw back the covers, turn the fan on, cool off and switch it off.  Back to sleep.

I'm fortunate that the night sweats seem to have gotten better.  Of course I'm still throwing the covers off and pulling them back on.  DH has closed down the heater vent in our bedroom and we turn the heat off at night, and we keep the ceiling fan going - that helps alot.  I'm also wearing bamboo jammies because they are very very soft and wick the sweat away.  I'd love to go back to flannel sheets but they're just too warm.   I also keep a glass of ice water by the bed - it helps.

Ah! I just remembered another hint that someone told me. She keeps a spray bottle of water, gives herself a mist and that works for her. I tried the ice water by the bed, but I need to truck down the hall to the fridge for my mineral water.
