Worried!!
So new here, my sister was 35 when she was diagnosed with breast cancer that was 6yrs ago thank God she has been cancer free for about 4 yrs now. I am 24 yrs old discovered a lump in right breast about 3-4 weeks ago i am scheduled for a mammogram on mon. Dec 1st. Last night i started having pain on top of ribcage which is still sore to the touch now and pain under arm feels a little swollen and today started €to feel really fatigued, with a low fever should i be any more worried than before these symptoms? Oh and also i have pain that is in my back just on right side also.

I'm not sure what your symptoms (latest) could mean but, this might sound difficult to do, try not to worry. Worry seems to only make things worse. Definitely go to your mammogram appointment on Monday and be sure to let them know of your symptoms and that you are sore. Make a list maybe to help you remember all the areas of discomfort (such as when they started to bother you) and any questions you have for them. In the mean time, take care of yourself and try to keep busy so you don't think about it too much...don't worry you will be fine. Hope this helps maybe a little? Thinking good thoughts for you!!

mzdavis589: I'm sorry you are so scared, and I think the reason you have not heard from anyone else is that this is how we all felt when we were awaiting tests or results.. it's impossible for any of us to dx you and that is why the tests.. and when one of our family members has already had the dx we feel every ache and pain and are sure it is the result of a bc, , but your lump might just as easily be associated to hormones and where you are in your cycle.. try not (as warrior said) to jump to any conclusions.. it's really difficult but you will know something soon.. and don't forget to let them know about your sister's dx too! Best of luck! I hope everything is clear !!

I'm feeling you! Had a breast screen 4 weeks ago as my eldest sister is having therapy as we speak (diagnosed at 54) . I am the youngest and out of the four in between us 2 were tested and came back clear. The other two don't want to be tested! A week ago I felt a lump that was about the size of a 50 cent (AUD), not very good with diameters, which was also very tender, so I went to my doctor yesterday to have it checked - low an behold he tells me that he felt 3 lumps in my right breast and beside the lump I felt in my left he also felt another one in my left breast!!!!???? Not what I wanted to here! I am 43. So heres the thing, as I have not heard about the screening I had 4 weeks ago should I worry? Yesterday afternoon and until I went to sleep I was worried, then this morning I woke up and felt a bit foolish for having jumped to conclusions.

Hi Mandie:
Why not get that BRAC test to see if you have the genetic components to get BC?
Your OB/GYN can order it and with your family history, it should be covered by insurance.
Just a blood test and soooo worth the relief. If you did turn out to have it (and just bec. your mom's and grandma both did does not mean you do at all), you could go get a hollywood pair ahead of time and have no worries at all. Or you would know to monitor very closely.
The size of the boobs makes no difference at all. Both you and your mom would need to be tested as everyone's test is specific to them.
Try not to worry about any of this right now. It's christmastime, think about it in the New Year and as of now, you are fine, right? My daughter is also 19 and she has these worries too, but they told her just to get the blood test, it's too early for mammos as of yet.
You go have a nice holiday and take your mind off it for now, honey.

Mandie, I would pursue the genetic counseling and the BRAC test. Check out the Force site www.facingourrisk.org which is a site for young women who have significant family history of breast cancer. There might be more answers for you from young women facing the same questions.
But for now, go and enjoy the Christmas season.
