I thought maybe we could start a forum for some creative ideas if one of us needs help!

My husband is NOT giving me any ideas at all, and I am at a loss!  He is movin' on up in his job, is very bare-bones (no frills kinda guy), loves sci-fi, adores Golden Girls (yes!  One of the many reasons I love him), and misses his doggy.  (had to be put down when I was on chemo almost 3 years ago).  He is as handy as heck and can fix anything.  He loves to do his own finishing work on wood, for instance.   He is a fantastic husband, daddy, and person.

What the heck do I get him?!?!?!?!

Post away if you need help for someone, too!  Thanks ladies, Deb

Edit to add: I am one of those wannabe personal shoppers.  I don't like to just get a gift card, I like to get the perfect gift for people.  All I have for him so far are some clothes for work and a gadget for the garage (parking the car).

There is a place in Chicago called Misericordia.  It is a wonderful complex of group homes for developmentally disabled people.  They have a bakery (and cafe if you're ever around da nort' side) where residents work, learn skills, have the opportunity to know success ... and they make wonderful stuff to boot.  And best of all (for dose of youse not from Chicagah) they have a great website of gift boxes and will deliver all over the place.

I 'discovered' this a few years back.  My late FIL was very wealthy and never needed anything.  My Dad is comfortable and has all the 'things' he needs (or he'll buy it, even right before his birthday!)  The treats are delicious.  Fit all sizes and tastes.  Doesn't even matter if someone gets a duplicate from someone else!  Now my dreaded shopping is a non-issue, and some recipients have even "stolen" my solution for themselves.

Now I'm SURE there are other such places where you can spend your hard-earned cash for something really good for someone you love all while serving a greater good.  You can look around, but I can tell you FOR SURE that this place is the REAL DEAL.  And I get just what I need at this time of year:  a heapin' helpin' of humility, a reminder that there are OTHER PEOPLE OUT THERE and the reminder that as miserable as I may feel, I can be part of the solution.

Joy to All, and a little extra for those who need a little more.

Beth (lots of good things come from Chicago)

OH, I remember Misericordia!  Great idea!  (I'm still just outside of Chicago, too!).
