does a mammogram or ultrasound pick up IBC?

For the past week or so I've been having stabbing pain and aching pain in my left breast and armpit. Today I went in for a mammogram and ultrasound and the doctor said he is 99% sure I don't have anything wrong.  He confirmed that my left breast has multiple lumps.  They are mostly on the outer perimeter of my breast near my armpit.  He said he doesn't see anything abnomal in either the mammogram or ultrasound.

My question is, would they have been considering IBC?  Why does my ONE breast have the swollen lumps/nodes and not my right?  Why does my left breast still have stabbing pains in it and is sore to the touch?  I came home from my appointment thrilled at what he said but now feel like I need more answers.  Very possibly being very paranoid but has anyone experienced what I'm experiencing in early stage IBC??

God Bless each one of you!

Thanks for answering, Praying4U.  just my nodes are swollen, not my whole breast.  My breast is sore and it feels like something is going on with my nipple.  Not sure how to explaing it other than sometimes it feels like there's something tugging on it from the inside.  I told this to the Dr. today who is a breast specialist but honestly he wasn't in the room long at all and we are in a small town so not sure how much he has seen.

I too was told I have very dense breasts today. Infact, the many lumps I had I had to put my finger on at first and she would place the probe on as I slipped my finger out.

I'm off to read the link you directed me to.

    God Bless you, too.

I'm tempted to just find a dr who would be willing to biopsy my breast.  It feels heavy and warm and just not right.  I just don't see a reason to wait if it could be ibc.  On the other hand, maybe I'm overreacting.  Sometimes I have a rash on the underside of my breast but it goes away.  Also, can the itchy rash be other places like on your stomach or arm and does it come and go at first??

If your breasts area dense they have digital mammograms now ..... on a bc follow up they could not get the regular mammogram machine to take a pic .... so they walked me over to the digital one and it worked.
