I hope this isn't a silly question.....

But I'm one of those people who uses protection faithfully and is still constantly paranoid about getting pregnant. Being on tamox and discovering that it has been used as a fertility drug has not helped my fears. I know I'll be tested eventually, but if I haven't had a period since before chemo tx (a bit over a year), is that an indicator that I'm post-menopausal, or is the only sure way to know a test?

    Lori,

I'm not really sure how you define menopause. I still have periods, though they are irregular, so I figure I'm in peri-menopause. You might call your onc's office and ask to speak to a nurse. I think there are blood tests that show if you're menopausal or not.

    Best wishes.

Not a stupid question at all.  There is a test to see if you are menopausal.  They test your estradnol (spelling may be wrong) levels.  That is how they can tell if you are in actual menopause or chemopause.  Your are er/pr pos if you don't wish to have children, why not have the ovaries removed?  That gets rid of excess estrogen in your body that cancer can grow off of and avoids the pregnancy issue.

Thanks for your advice ladies! I will request the test at my next appt...and try not to let my paranioa destroy the intimacy until then. lol

I suppose no one wants to have surgery, but I suppose I should discuss the pros and cons of that one with my onc as well.

    Take care....
