Bi Mam with a port? Has anyone had this

I was informed that I have to have a Bi Mam on the 14th. of December but I am terrified of them ruining my port in the right breast, the rads were on the left breast.  Has anyone had a mammogram with a port in. My port is low enough that it will stretch the tubes (sp) and I'm afraid they will rip off the port.  I'm I just being a scardy cat, or do they have a way to do this so it won't pull on the port.  Thanks Pearl

I had a port put in May 2007 and a bilateral mastectomy in Dec.  I still have my port and they still use it with no problems.  Hugs and good luck!

I have had a power port since 10/06 and had a bilateral in March  2007.  I still have the port and have had no problems. 

 Don't worry- the port probably isn't really embedded in your breast tissue.  It's under your skin and then the tubes probably go up and through by your clavicle before inserting into your vein.  They will be able to work around it for the surgery.

But if you have concerns, please discuss with your surgeon- he should be able to reassure you and explain how it all works.

They should be able to do a mammogram with the port with no problem, as long as the tech doing the mammo knows what she/he is doing.

Hi I have a port and just had my 6 months follow up mamogram,no problem at all.They know what they are doing.....godbless roxy

I completely missed the question!  All I can say is - chemo brain here.  I cannot address the mammogram issue since I have not had one since having my port placed.

Yes I have had a mamo on my port side.They were aware of the port and were real careful. May your mamo be good.
