I was diagnosed with stage iv breast cancer to bone last spring.  My oncologist told me my survival outcome with taking only femara would be the same whether or not I had a mastectomy, radiation, and or chemo. He told me my quality of life would be much better taking only femara.  I've been on it for six months now and I can no longer palpate the breast mass or feel the axillary nodes-my back hurts more, though.  Anyway I have been trying to find outcome studies on stage iv breast cancer and femara but have not had any success.  I would like to read the studies or compare notes with someone in a similar situation.  He gave me two to ten years (if exceptional response).  I would appreciate any info.  Thank you

Winn, I am sorry, but no one can tell you how long you will live.  Your onc. may be well informed and an excellent oncologist, but there are so many new drugs evolving, as well, as clinical trials testing vaccines for breast cancer.  The other issue is some people can manage bone mets for years and years.  I, personally, know someone who has had bone mets for 16 years with a very good quality of life.  Please, please, don't listen to stats, it is just not fair to anyone. Stay well, Maryiz

winn...Scroll down to the section where you can "share with others with similar diagnosis" and click on "Recurrence and Metastatic Disease" (http://community.breastcancer.org/forum/8). You will find many women there who have stage IV bc, many of whom are thriving. I hope that you will too!

I am so sorry to hear your news but it appears you are responding to Femara.  You may want to search the posts for information on Zometa drug for bones.  I believe many ladies with bone issues are using this additional drug and some with very good results.  Best wishes Joann

Hi winn, I just wanted to add, I have an aunt who has had bone mets for 18 years, and is still living a relatively good life, (she is 87, so she is experiencing the aches and pains that are also associated with growing older!!!).  You will find loads of information and inspiration on this site.
