For those of us who are on Zometa, I thought this article would be of interest.  It tells of a recent discovery of connection between ONJ and a particular form of bacteria called "microbial biofilms" that are a mixture of bacteria and sticky extracellular material.  They do not know why the bisphosphonate drugs cause the infections.  They are currently studying ways to treat ONJ.  Dr. Sedghizadeh treats patients with these infections at USC.

In addition there is a link to this article which states that Zometa may put patients at risk for serious atrial fibrillation, or irregular heartbeats.  This is especially true if patients have preexisting heart disease or hypertension.
