Hi Windsor...I am on femara and yes I have the insominia. I was told to take benadryl to sleep. I have noticed after being on these AI's for about 11 months now that I do go to sleep now I just do not stay asleep, awake alot thru the night. I think some people do take meds to help them sleep....

I was really hesitant to take anything, too, but night became a nightmare! I tried Lunesta, Ambien CR, and Xanax, along with an over-the-counter sleep aid. Not every night, but maybe a couple times a week when the insomnia was the worst. Like when my body was comatose from fatigue, but my brain was like a ferret on speed!! They took the edge off the stress. I'd alternate them on different nights.
At this point, I'm happy with the Advil PM. My sciatica has been nasty lately and this kills two birds at once.
Good luck.

I take Ambien every night. Ambien isn't addictive even though they don't recommend taking it longer than a week or 2. The regular Ambien comes in a generic also which helps with price. It doesn't wear out for me either. So I guess as long as I'm on this med, Aromasin (another 2 1/2 yrs.) I'll be on Ambien. You can't function without sleep and that can cause a lot of other problems. Hopefully I've taken the lesser of 2 evils. Doctor doesn't have a problem with it either.

I wasn't sure if it was the menopause or the meds that caused my insomnia. The year I was off Femara, I still had it. So, I blamed Zoloft. Now I'm back on Aromasin. Thank god for Ambien. I take it every night--usually just a half tab. It helps me get to sleep, and when (not if) I wake up in the middle of the night, I can pretty much fall back to sleep.
Recently I was on Neurontin and Clonazepam for nerve pain, and that was even better sleep than with Ambien.

I have been taking something to sleep since Dx. Without sleeping pills I don't sleep well at all, very restless, awake most of the night. I have tried the "old" school ones as well as Ambian and Lunesta. I switch off between Ambian 10mg and Ambian 12.5mg CR. I also take 1mg Ativan and my gapabentin at bedtime as well. Still takes a long time to fall asleep, but with the Ambian I sleep at least 5 hours. Occasionally, I won't take anything and it is miserable. Don't know if it is the AI, menopause or what, but cancer put me into chemopause, then ooph slammed me into menopause so they all overlap. I guess it doesn't matter the cause, because for now I am on the AI's. My onc does not seem to be concerned, nor does my therapist. Good thing.

I have been on Armidex for 2 1/2 years, thrown into menopausal chemically through Zoladex injections and then had ovaries removed in May of this year. I never had a problem with sleep prior to chemo and have been on Immovane (sleeping med) for the same amount of time I have been on Armidex. Sleep is so important and my gp and oncologist both support me taking this med.
<><><> I am awake this morning, woke up at 3:30 a.m. and couldnt go back to sleep....most nights I can but the last two I havent. Menopause/Armidex= insominia that I never had before!

I don't sleep that well on it - however - I will NOT take a sleeping pill as studies recently have shown that AMBIEN even occasional use of Ambien increase your risk for lung cancer - even if you do not smoke ... here is just ONE easy to read article. But I would suggest you go to GOOGLE SCHOLAR and google university studies on this subject: http://www.webmd.com/sleep-disorders/news/20120227...
Anyway, what I do is I sleep when I feel like it and I stay awake and read and putter around and do my hobbies when awake. I do not work right now so I can do this. When I have to work I will have to take a lot of benedryl. lol.
