Breast pain

I have been having pain for the last few days in my breast that I had the lumpectomy in.  At first shooting pains and now constant.  I can only describe it as pain, not soreness and it's not really to the touch.  It is not like the bee stings I had when I was healing.  Anyone have any advice as to what may be going on?  I am scheduled for an MRI on Nov 5.  My lumpectomy was in Feb.  Any thoughts appreciated!!  I'll post in high risk too.

I have had strange 'zingy' sensations for a long time after my excision.  I'm sure they were continuing at my 1 year mark, though they did gradually get less over time.

But they didn't suddenly become a lot worse.

Here's what the Mayo clinic says about breast pain:  http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/breast-pain/DS00760

Thank you leaf.  This is a weird kind of pain I have never felt before and since I am on tamox, I have no cycles.  I'm glad I am scheduled for an MRI soon!

I get random pains from my lumpectomy, and my surgery was July 2007. The pain is worse some days than others. Some of it is also probably radiation related in my case. In general, I'd say pain post-lump is probably just the nerves regenerating.

Kimber---actually there are very few nerves in the breast itself. It could be hormonal even though you're on tamox.  Even though you have an MRI coming up very soon, I would give you doc a call anyway and just describe what's going on.  Praying you get good results from the MRI

Anne, there must be nerves along the incision, though. My incision hurts, and I'm pretty sure the pain refers into the breast in my case. When I mentioned it to both my surgeon and rad onc, they both said it was probably nerve regeneration.

Kimber-I replied on your other post.  I had my excisonal biopsy in Feb also.  I still get pain in that breast around the incision.  I asked my dr. about it this last visit and was told it was normal, that the scar tissue tends to pull and tear as it heals.  My incision runs along the top of my breast. The incision itself still gets tender and burns sometimes too.  Let us know how your Mri goes- best of luck- Denise
