I am about to have my follow up diagnostic mammogram.  Six months ago, a screening mammogram set off a series of biopsies which led to LCIS dx in April 08.  I am very scared.  I did have a normal MRI in May but it was the calcifications that got me in trouble in the first place--something the MRI cannot pick up.  I cannot distract myself very well these days and I'm thinking the worst!  Please send some positive vibes my way and say a few prayers if you will--I feel like I need them now.

Misty---the first follow up is the most stressful, but it does get easier over time, I promise!  I was diagnosed with LCIS 5 years ago in Sept and just finished my 5 years of tamoxifen last week. I do worry when mammo/MRI is coming up, but otherwise I try not to let it enter into my daily life.  I will be taking a little break and then starting on Evista in a few months for further prevention against invasive bc. (onc and pcp both thought it a good idea, and just got off the phone with gyn who also agreed.  Just hope I tolerate it as well as I have the tamox. Praying you get good benign results and many more!

Thanks dear leaf,  I think I have a diagnosable mental condition along with my current state of scared s##tless but that's what makes me interesting!!!!!!  Mammogram is Monday morning and the radiologist will be there so at least I will not have to wait.  Thanks for your good wishes.  I'll let you know.

My oncologist has now discharged me and referred me back to my surgeon.  In her letter to him she tells him the tumur is 3cm, was grade III ER positive and Her 2 negative.  She also says in the letter that I did not tolerate the chemotherapy treatment well.

I received 4 treatments of intravenous chemotherapy, and since August 2008 I have been taking 20mg of Tamoxifen, daily.

Her comments scare me as it seems that my cancer is worse than I was made to believe.  Please help me understand her report to the surgeon.

achja,  Your oncologist is simply describing your tumor--not an indication that your cancer is worsening at all.  Your surgeon has this information as well since he/she is the one who did the original biopsy.  Many people have trouble tolerating chemotherapy.  Sounds like you were able to complete your chemo despite some side effects which is good.

If you have questions, you really need to call your oncologist and have the letter explained to you.  You must ask questions--it is your right to know and it will probably put your mind at ease.  Call today.

Misty.....I'm sending you hugs and  prayers.....I know how you feel...My follow-up mammogram is scheduled for December 4th, and I am already stressing over  it.....I just can't make myself believe that it will be clear.....So...Hang in there!  We are all here for you.

Right back at cha, Sandy.  I had myself worried sick and was so relieved to have normal results.  I wish you the same--there is nothing I can say to decrease your worry so I'll keep you in my prayers.

I told ya you were gonna be fine!!  My MRI is next Wed and I am starting to go into freak out mode....it's exactly a year to the day from the beginning of my last journey to get diagnosed.

My thoughts will be with you on Wednesday.  Odds are, you'll be fine but I know EXACTLY how you feel and it's hard to put it in perspective.  Distract yourself as much as possible, play with your kids, watch trashy TV shows, pray and let me know the GOOD news on Wednesday!

Kimber--is this your first breast MRI? They're really not bad--just a little noisy and close quarters in there--they give you earplugs which help a bit--I just  keep repeating little prayers over and over to myself and it's very calming.  My results took about 4 or 5 days  at my old facility, my last one the radiologist wasn't busy, so she gave me all the results right away. Praying for good results for you.
