HMO/insurance woes

I would like to see a separate forum for health insurance information during and post BC. This has been one of my biggest problems and I don't know where to find information and support.

My husband divorced me during BC and my wonderful PPO health insurance ended 3 years later. The only choice I had through my employer when the PPO ended  was an HMO. Now I am fighting to get to continue my routine followup care with the same (but now "out of network") providers i had before (who in my view have kept me alive for the past 5 years) under a "continuity of care" clause in my health insurance. It's tough fighting cancer and insurance companies at the same time. One top of all that my new HMO is costing me 500. per month!!! I was out of work when I was being treated for BC, and I am starting a new career not making much money, so that is 1/4 of my income. All this hurts!! I just want to get some tips for fighting to keep my old providers, or maybe some ideas about how to cut insurance/health care costs. I am coming up on my 5 year anniversary of DX.

    soccermom,

I saw your post and wanted to respond, even though I don't have any good answers for you. If you're interested in a separate forum perhaps you should send a message to the moderators.

I assume you've already talked to the human resources people at work (if there are any). I notice that people on various forums here raise insurance issues (for example, women without reconstruction often want to know what insurance will cover in the way of breast forms, bras, etc.). I hope someone will come along who's more knowledgeable than me.
