Pregnancy & cancer risk

I had an estrogen dependent cancer when I was 31 years old, and now I´m 37 and just finished the tamoxifen time. I would like to know if getting pregnant would increase the chances of having cancer again.

 Thank you,

Ariadne

    Hi Ariadne,

I was first diagnosed at age 24, both estrogen and progesterone positive, lumpectomy, did chemo, rads and went on tamoxifen, had a recurrence in the same breast at age 28.(last year)

did a mastectomy, chemo and doc. wanted me to go on Arimidex....

I told him it is very important for me to conceive(age 29), he gave me the go ahead last week , I currently don't have a period though becuase I was on Lupron for 8 months.

But I am going to start trying to conceive as soon as my cycle returns.

I read an article where there is no link between cancer and pregnancy.

     good luck

There has not been a study to prove a link between pregnancy and an increased risk of cancer. There is evidence to suggest that pregnancy actually causes a reduction in recurrence risk. Just be sure to be in communication with your doctor regarding you fears, and remember that any choice you make is the right one. I went through exactly the same fears, and have a happy outcome!
