While breast cancer rallies communities of women, it also rallies those who are touched by cancer and as men, we sometimes think that it is all about our wives, mothers and sisters.

Today we met with our oncologist for the first time.  A very insightful meeting in which we laid out a plan of options for my wife.  We went over many topics and just as we were wrapping up, she turned to me and asked about me, how I was doing, how I felt about my relationship with my wife, etc.  I explained that having had a mother and cousins and aunts with breast cancer that having a wife with breast cancer was unfortunately something I was somewhat prepared for emotionally.

What I told her I was afraid of though was that my daughter has two grandmothers and a mother who have had breast cancer.  What shocked me next was her next words, "You should get tested yourself to see if you might be a carrier".

Yes, I'm getting tested to see if I am a carrier.
