Providence, RI 10/11/08 BC Waterfire

Just wanted to list this while there's still time!  On Saturday, October 11th, 2008, the Gloria Gemma Breast Cancer Resource Foundation is sponsoring the last Waterfire of the season.  Waterfire, for the uninitiated, is a wonderful & beautiful outdoor event that happens several times from April - October each year, in which small floating fires are lit along the length of the Providence River, which flows through some of the best parts of the city of Providence, RI.  There are lots of fun outdoor & indoor things to do along the route (including dance lessons & even gondola rides down the river itself!!), and there is always the most wonderful music soundtrack playing along the route on outdoor speakers.

The start of the Waterfire route is near Providence Place Mall, where there are ample parking garages, and Waterfire itself is free.

This last Waterfire event features a VIP party, a wine tasting & art gala, (these last two things cost money & require tickets) and best of all, they will be lighting the beautiful Providence State House in pink lights, which is quite a sight!

October is the best month of the year in southern New England, and the weather report for Saturday is sunny & warm during the day (70 degrees F), sweater/jacket weather in the evening (55-60 degrees F) so the weather should be perfect for an outdoor stroll.
