I am totally new to this all so if I sound ignorant in my knowledge of breast cancer, please bear with me. I am 26 yrs old. I found a lump in my left breast last night. It is quite large, prox 1 inch in diameter, but it is not hard like a cyst. It is soft, almost like a hernia or a popped muscle. I am going to the doc asap to schedule a mamo but in the mean time I am stressing out big time. Can anyone tell me if cancerous lumps are supposed to be hard or soft, or if the come either way?

I think "generally" cancerous lumps are hard.  Mine felt thick, hard and immobile and there was no pain when touching it...almost like it was stuck to the back of my chest, when, in reality, it wasn't.

But the only way to know for sure if it's cancer is to do what you are doing...get to the doctor and let them make a determination.  The statistics are absolutely on your side, Jenna, that it's not cancer.   Good luck to you and keep us posted.
