new to all of this!
Hi all...
On 9/15 I got the news the biopsy results indicate ILC. Did anybody else have soreness in the breast with the tumor? Actually, that is how I became aware of it. I am hopeful that the tumor is small, the ultrasound and MRI put it at 1.7cm. On Wednesday I am scheduled for a lumpectomy and SNB. I think the worse part is all of this waiting.
I did have an inverted nipple for about a year that I didn't realize was a symptom of a possible issue.

Checkum, sorry your having to join the ranks. First off, I have to say that your very fortunate to have had your "lobular" cancer caught fairly early. This darn lobular stuff can be tricky to see and so many of us ended up having pretty good size tumors by the time of diagnosis. You hit it on the head with knowing the worst part of all of this journey is the waiting game.
Personally, I knew that something did not look quite right the summer of '07, but at the time I knew that I had a clean mamo in Jan so didn't think too much about it. Now I have been educated enough to know that lobular cancer does not necessarily show up in the form of a lump, but a thickness. My what we learn!
I'll be sending positive vibes for a lump. with very clean margins and a SNB with negative results.
I hope that you have as much of a positive experience as I when chatting with the wonderful ladies here on-line. This website is a great source of info and support.
Take care, from a fellow ILC gal ... Carol

Yes, the wost part is the waiting....sorry and wish that would be different.
Mixed results with MRI...mine showed 9mm and ended up being 1.8cm.
Some gals posted that it showed 2cm and ended up less than 1cm, so not sure what to make of it.
My twin had something light up on her MRI and her biopsy showed nothing.
Good luck. The hardest thing to tell someone is to not worry because of course you will. Worry won't change what is already there (i'm still working on the worry part).

yes - worry is a thing that comes and goes. I think I put myself into a little world of denial to get through each day. Right now other than having somebody scare the hell out of me with the news -- I am really not feeling badly. I think it is the mental impact more than anything else right now

Hi, checkum. Love your screen name, BTW! Anyhow, you asked if anyone else had soreness in their breast with ILC. I had pain over a rib for about a year before I could feel the lump, and it turned out the tumor was growing into the pectoralis muscle. I've heard of other girls who have had pain with their tumors as well. I think the medical community pushes the "bc doesn't hurt" mantra so the general public doesn't fly into a panic every time they're PMSy and their boobs are sore.
Good luck with surgery on Wednesday--keep us posted.

Thanks Nash. That would make sense. Yes, when I called my general prac. the nurse said "oh don't worry if it hurts that is a good thing!" Well - hmmm - that turned out to be wrong!
4 days & counting!

There's a real problem both with detecting and with estimating the size of lobular. My breast surgeon couldn't tell what size mine was even after she took it out, using the larger MRI estimate as a guide, and she's highly experienced and respected. We're now waiting for the pathologists to decide whether we have negative margins or not.
As far as I'm concerned, the waiting isn't as bad as some of the invasive and uncomfortable procedures I've been subjected to, but then I'm infinitley distractable.
Try thinking about or doing something you especially like while you're waiting, preferably something that requires full concentration. It works for me.
