My mom's cousin

My mom called about her cousin Marilyn, and it's bad news. I went to my mom's today after I picked my son up from school. Her husband called my Dad at 7:30 this morning. Marilyn has breast cancer and it's fatal. She never told anyone, not even her husband. She's known for a year and a half.  Her husband just found out 3 weeks ago.  It's spread to her lymph nodes. She has jaundice.  My mom is just devastated. She's been crying all day.  She says that Marilyn is like a sister to her. Marilyn's mother (my Grandma's sister) died at home when I was a little girl and that's what Marilyn wanted to do. I spoke with my dad a little bit today.  He said that when Marilyn's mother passed away she never told anyone that she had cancer either.  My mom is not ready for this. It's only been 5 months since my Grandma died.  And she's not over that yet.
