Hello My Sweeties,

I am in the process of doing a Blog for all my Breastcancer Sisters. I am not that creative, but I am managing. Ha. I am a lover for Animals. And, most of my BreastCancer Sisters are, as well. I been wanting to do this for a while now, but, I need some help on how to get started. I am wanting to form a small foundation/organization for Homeless Animals and Neglected Animals that are in need for good loving homes. Where do I start? A website or what? Help me please.

God Bless,

Love, Flower

Kaloni

    Hi Kaloni--

I would suggest that you start by going to http://www.petfinder.com/ and open an account/become a member as a "Shelter."

If you are an organization without official non-profit status, you will need to send them:

    • 1.  A copy of your ADOPTION CONTRACT (not the application); AND
    • 2.  A letter of reference signed by your primary veterinarian (on his/her letterhead) confirming that he/she provides medical care for the pets in your rescue and adoption program.

Aftet you submit this information, someone from Pet Finders will personally call you regarding your petfinder account and animal rescue/shelter.

You will then get your own free webpage on PetFinders (looks like this  http://www.petfinder.com/shelters/NH85.html and it will have a link to the actual pets you have available for adoption.

    http://search.petfinder.com/shelterSearch/shelterSearch.cgi?animal=&breed=&age=&size=&specialNeeds=&declawedPets=&children=&status=&id=&internal=&contact=&name=&shelterid=NH85&sort=&preview=1

to advertise the animals you have for adoption.

Snoop around Pet Finders and see how it works.

Of course, you will have to find foster homes for the animals until they get adopted, get together an adoption application and adoption contract, get voluteers to help, decide if you will become a 501(c)3, how you will do fundraising, decide the criteria for adoptors, get together volunteers to do home visits after people fill out an adoption application, etc.

That would be my suggestion for a start.
