Cadbury Recalls Chinese-Made Chocolates, Safety in 'Doubt'

HONG KONG -
British chocolate maker Cadbury said Monday tests have "cast doubt" on the safety of its Chinese-made products and ordered a recall, the latest foreign company affected by China's tainted milk scandal.
Tests "cast doubt on the integrity of a range of our products manufactured in China," Cadbury said without elaboration in a statement issued from its office in Singapore.
It wasn't immediately clear whether the tests revealed melamine, the industrial chemical at the center of China's recent milk scandal.
An Asia spokeswoman for Cadbury didn't immediately return a call from The Associated Press.
Cadbury said it has recalled 11 chocolate products made at its factory in the Chinese capital Beijing, which are distributed in Taiwan, Hong Kong and Australia.
The company said, however, all its dairy suppliers have been cleared by government milk testing.
China's recent food safety scandal started with the discovery of melamine in baby milk powder.
Four deaths have been blamed on the bad milk, and some 54,000 children have developed kidney stones or other illnesses after drinking the contaminated baby formula.
Authorities say suppliers might have added melamine, which is rich in nitrogen, to watered-down milk to deceive quality tests for protein.

I personally try to stay away from "made in china" toys and food. A few years ago when they had the pet food recall, I lost my baby kitten. I know how heart-broken I was when my "inspiration" died, I can not imagine the pain that would cause to know you feed your child or loved one poisoned food. Us Americans need to make a stand, and let them know they can not poison us!!!!

I heard the other day that KFC is owned by a company in China, makes me think about breading on the chicken?
-
Well some of these so called "poisonings" I don't think are accidents.......makes me leary about eating ANYTHING........and especially when you are on chemo and your immune system is low anyway!!!
-
I hadn't heard that about KFC.......wow!
-
Sorry about your kitten Janet........that's awful! I know how attached you can get to an animal!!!!
-
My kids give me a hard time and tell me I am wrong, but I think it started out as population control. Now they realize they can save money and control population. I know that is bad to say, but thats how I feel!
Thank you for your thoughts, I still miss my little boy. He came to me when I needed him most,he got me past a bad point in my life and then he got sick. I so wished he was with me now!!!
-
I agree.....and was thinking the same thing earlier but was afraid I would offend someone for saying that!!!
I also can remember a year or so ago......there was a lady who got her feet SCALDED from some thongs that were made in China, that she bought at Wal Mart. There was some kind of chemical in them.......and after she came forward......there were a lot of people witht he same symptoms!!!
