No Eyelashes
Hello Everyone;
Well my issue is no eyelashes. I can deal with not having them. My problem is how watery and itchy they are all the time. I have red circles around my eyes, they are chapped. I put aloe vera on them and put cucumbers on them as well and that seems to help with the chapping. What do I do about the watery, itching eyes? They are driving me crazy. I wear sunglasses outside to keep from the dust, wind, and sun. They bother me all the time. Please let me know what has helped you? I truly need some suggestions. I need to be able to do things without having to constantly missing with my eyes all the time. I blot them to so they do not become sore, but they are.
Thank you, Elizabeth

Ebann,
I has the same problem and my opthamologist told me to use over the counter tears because my eyes had quit producing tears. The watering that you have is considered the last process which is trying to clear foreign objects out of the eye, in my case no tears so they just watered all of the time. She gave me a sample of Systane Ultra Lubricant Eye Drops. I usually put them in in the morning and before I go to bed and they have seemed to help withe the watering. You can buy these over the counter, I got mine a Wal-Mart. I hope this help but check with your onc first. Good luck.
Hugs,
Linda

When I took chemo I had the exact same issue. I thought I had excessive tearing from chemo. The eye doc said it was actually the opposite. Its a dry eye issue and I needed eye lubrication.
I took Refresh,,for quite a while and my eyes seemed to ache and get worse. Turned out I was allergic to the kind with preservative. I started getting the little individual viles and it helped alot. Mind you I had to use them all day long. But it helped.
Hope you can stop mopping them up soon

Hello Ladies;
I just want to thank you very much for your suggestion. I did speak to oncologist and she suggested the eye drops and the cold compresses. So I started doing that. The cold compresses feel really good and has brought down the redness and puffiness. The drops will they are not as watery. I do hope it gets better in a little bit. Maybe I am to impatient. We will see. Again thank you. Have a wonderful day.
Blessings; Elizabeth

Elizabeth, if you have had Cytoxan chemo it's probably a reaction to it. I had watery eyes and runny nose for months after Cytoxan but it did eventually get better. Systane helped more than anything else. Try the individual serving portions LOL to help prevent any infection.

Hi abbadoodles;
Thank you so much for replying. I did have Cytoxan. I do have a runny nose also. So that could very well be the reaction I am having. I did get some Systane and it is helping some. I put cool compresses on my eyes as well. I suppose I just have to be patient. Again thank you and have a blessed day.
Blessings. Elizabeth

Hi Ebann, have your eyes gotten any better? My last treatment TC was on the 16th, they started watering on the 24th and won't quit. I am praying it stops because I too have chapped skin under my eyes and I look like crap because of it....well worse than I already did, lol.
Please let me know it ends - my onc's nurse set up a referral to an eye dr. for me today - she seemed to think that it didn't necessarily go away!

Hi Sherry;
My eyes are still watery. Better when I am inside. When outside they are worse. They are not as bad as they were. They are better. The chappness has gotten better. I put a cream on my eyes from Aveda. It has really helped along with the cold compresses. I just had surgery so like I said I have been inside all this time. I do know so far they are not as bad as they were. I put the eyes drops in my eyes as well. I do hope yours gets better. I really dislike living with this. Let me know what your eye doctor tells you.

I've not had chemo, so didn't lose hair or eyelashes. I must tell you that when I went to a Prescriptives make-up place at Macy's the other day, the beautiful gal who helped me was wearing a pink ribbon. As it turned out, she had bc 2 yrs. ago, her husband left her when she was ill with cancer, and we had lots to talk about (though she was only 38 when diagnosed). She wears wigs and false eyelashes, and I would NEVER have guessed. She's a very nice-looking black gal, with not a wrinkle in her face! I know this is off topic, as she didn't say anything about problems with her eyes, but it never occurred to me that for those who lose eyelashes, false ones can be the answer. Since I'm not a big make-up junkie, some of those things just aren't on my radar screen.........something to consider, though, should I ever need chemo. Nancy

Nancy;
I do hope that you never have to experience chemo. Yes they have wigs, scarves, hats and adhesive eyelashes and eyebrows. My daughter does cosemotology. She does her best to help me out. Have not been able to do the eyelash thing cause my eyes are so watery that they would not stay on. Plus the adhesive can be irriatiable to your eyelids and you need to be careful. They also have a great program called look good feel better. They usually come in your area and help women who can learn how to make them feel better and how to make them look good with make up. www.lookgoodfeelbetter.org Check them out! I wish you the best Nancy. Thanks for letting know about the information. Cause feeling good about your appearance is important.

Elizabeth,
So sorry to hear you've not been able to use the eyelashes and your eyes are so watery. You are fortunate to have a daughter who knows the "tricks of the trade" and can help you out. When I was in radiation, the "look good, feel better" program was supposed to be held and I signed up for it, but it was cancelled at the last minute. I never did get there, and now I'm doing fine. Thanks for the link, though. I'll check it out. Nancy
