Has anyone had this?

I was 48 at the time of diagnosis, but still very regular and clearly pre-menopausal. I got one period at the beginning of chemo, but then everything stopped.  So far, pretty normal ... chemo-induced menopause which morphed into regular menopause.  I'm now 50.

Last night in bed, I had a pain in my lower left side and I had really weird dreams.  These are pretty typical pre-menstrual signs for me, but I didn't clue in until the morning when I realized my period had started.

At my last gyn visit, my doc agreed that I had probably entered real menopause, but wanted to know ASAP if I got any irregular bleeding.

So, has this happened to anyone?  I'm posting in triple neg, because all of us gals don't have to worry about the problems with tamoxifen, etc.

Thanks in advance,

Hillary

    Update:

My gyn scheduled me for an immediate endometrial biopsy to rule out uterine cancer.  I had the biopsy results this morning - it wasn't as painful as I had thought it might be.  My research suggests that uterine cancer is a rare, but possible, site for breast cancer metastisis. I won't know the results for a week.  I'm also suggested for transvaginal ultrasound to check out other possibilities.

I've heard of periods coming back after chemo is over. When I saw my onc a couple of months after my last chemo treatment, he asked me if my periods had started up again. I'm 53, and so far nothing, so I am hoping I am in menopause.  I am hoping for you that this is nothing to worry about. If it is something, they'll fix it quickly! Many women in my family had had it, had a hysterectomy, and none of them had to have any chemo or radiation.

Jacquio - Thanks for your response. I was 49 when I went into chemopause and my doctors were convinced that I was finished. I don't have a family history to go by. My mom had chemo the same age as me, but was luckily ER pos and went on tamoxifen after chemopause. Her sister had other illnesses that affected her menstrual cycle. My grandmother is now deceased and I'm the oldest of my three sisters!  I know that a hysteroctomy can cure things, but I just don't have the time right now for another operation Surprised

My cousin got her periods one and a half years after doing chemo (she was in her mid 40s).  They came back with a rage and while there was no disease, after about a year she decided to have a hysterectomy due to the discomfort.  My oncologist wouldn't declare my periods gone for good until I was two years out, she said it wasn't uncommon for their to be an extended delay.
