NY Disability Appeals

I was not working at the time of my diagnosis for Stage III, over a year ago.  I had a mastectomy, lumpectomy, axillary node dissection, TRAM started, chemo & rad.

As per usual, NY Disability denied my claim.  It will be about 11 months to get a hearing.  How did you make out - denied again or approved?  Did you have an attorney?  How can you get your appeal expedited?  I desperately need the disability payments.

I am on SSDI, I had an attorney because my employer before bc recommended it. Of course, they recommended it as they knew when I got SSDI they wouldn't have to pay my long term disability any more. I did get it through the attorneys without a hearing; the hearing attorney read the info and made a decision. There are some websites you can google that have "helpful hints" on getting SSDI. One of the best suggestions I read is to describe your symptoms (whether in person or in writing) by your WORST day, not your best day. I know in my case my typical reaction is to minimize things to friends by saying "I'm OK", when I'm not. Don't even go into your docs and say "fine" when they ask how you are. Let your doc know the truth as the "investigation" into your situation will include notes from your docs. Good luck and (((prayers))) for a successful outcome.
