Bad breast pain

My left breast is so painful and sensitive, that it makes me gasp when I brush it against anything. My tumor has grown out through the surface and seems to be even more prominent since my first chemo 10 days ago. I scrounged an oxycodone left over from surgery in the hope that I can get some relief. Sometimes I feel like this breast is going to hurt forever, and I want it gone now. But alas, there are 7 chemos to go before surgery.

Have any of you had severe pain with IBC? Does it improve with treatment? I need some hope that this is temporary and that I can make it through.

I am so sorry that you are having a lot of pain.  At times, my breast burned and ached, and stabbed, and was so miserable.  I couldn't stand to wear a bra, or have anything brush it.  After a month of chemo, I remember being so surprised by how much better my breast felt and looked.  It was no longer hard and swollen and red, and it started getting softer to the touch.  

Things I would do to help with the pain was warm damp compresses.  I was on pain meds because I had some pretty severe bone pain from the metastases there, so of course those helped with the breast pain as well.

I hope you get feeling better soon!!!!!!

Yesterday someone suggested I soak in a tub, so I tried it. It relaxed me and the warm water around my breast did help the pain.

I wore a camisole to church today. The thought of putting a bra on this breast was too much to bear! At least I felt well enough to go to church today, for which I am very thankful.

I am home now and hurting, so after lunch I'm going to try another bath.

Maybe after chemo Tx 2 it will start getting better.

When mine is really bad...I put a ice pack on it and freeze the area.  This seems to help me.

Thanks, I'll try to find a large ice pack,as it is the major part of a DDD breast that is so painful. It doe make sense that both heat and cold would be able to bring relief.

I am sorry that you are having pain. I am wondering if the ice pack may help, too. I am hopeful that after your next tx you may get some relief from the pain as the ca cells get knocked out of there.

My onc told me today that the pain may be from the cancer cells dying. That would be a good thing. she gave me an Rx for pain meds.
