Donations to help pay Medical Bills

Options

I'm planning a birthday/celebration party for my mother who is almost done with her final radiation treatment. I wanted to ask the guests to donate money (in lieu of gifts) to the Susan G. Komen foundation; however, they already get so much money from all their fund-raising. Are the other charities out there that need help; more specifically ones that help women/men who do not have insurance or cannot pay their medical bills in association with cancer treatment? Thank you for all your help.

I would ask her chemo nurses what they might suggest.  They may know where some of their patients have been helped through.  Even the local hospital may have a program you could have them donate to, that would go to local women for treatments?

I have listed several charities/financial resources for bc on my wikispace: http://bb67.wikispaces.com/

Maybe you would find a charity there. Also, you can look into scholarship programs for children affected by cancer:  http://www.finaid.org/scholarships/cancer.phtml

What a nice thing to do!

Here is another thought.  There is a wonderful charity based in So Cal that sponsors retreats for breast cancer survivors to enhance their self esteem. People from all over the US can attend.  Check out www.chrysalistowings.com. They are a small charity and always need funds to underwrite the retreats. I went to the retreat and was so moved that I have donated hundreds of hours to help this charity with their upcoming golf tournament.  Also, your Mom would probably love to attend the retreat in April, 2009. Maybe, someone can donate the fee($120) to have her attend. The retreat costs much more, but the fundraising offsets the cost.

Hi, I am writing because I wanted to find out if you ever found a place to donate your money.  We are doing a fundraiser for a l3 year old girl with cancer.  The mom is a single mom and needs help for medical bills.  Anything you could do would be greatly appreciated.
