3 year cancer free anniversary!

Hi Ladies -- I don't post often but I do lurk occasionally and I just want everyone to know that tomorrow is my 3 years cancer free anniversary!!   Yeah for me!  It seems like so loooong ago and I feel so far removed from it now.  The day I found out it was cancer was the day I became cancer-free (my surgeon had a pathologist waiting so that I only had to do one surgery). I was triple neg, stage 1, medullary. I did the usual protocol -- 4 AC, 4 taxol, 7 weeks radiation (ugh!).

The reason I'm posting is mostly for the newly diagnosed...I know how all encompassing it is at first -- gosh it seems like it's all I thought about for the first year.  I still get aches and pains on the lumpectomy/radiation side but all aches and pains go away within a week or two (I think most are from working out too hard).  Now that I'm 3 years out I worry more about what my hair looks like (just like before cancer) and worry more about losing 5 lbs (just like before cancer) than I ever worry about cancer returning.  

So I just wanted to post because this because,  like most of us, encouraging stories of survivors really helped me through the dark times.

Congratulations!  It is so nice of you to think about the newbies on the post. Seeing someone who has made it and is doing so well is exactly what they need while in the midst of it all.

I'm four months out from my last chemotherapy and feeling good. I chose not to do rads or hormone suppression drugs, so I'm ready to move on with life as you have done.

Suzi (and Kimberly) - CONGRATULATIONS!  Yes, we all need stories of hope like yours.  I was diagnosed on July 16, 2008 with a 3cm tumor, and 2 nodes positive as of right now, we'll see after surgery scheduled some time in early November . . .  I will be getting my 2nd round of Cisplatin/Avastin this Wednesday, the 27th. 

I look forward to sharing a post such as yours some day . . . and hope to read many more posts like yours!!!!!!!

Hi everyone!  I wanted to let you newbies know that I too am a 3 year triple negative breast cancer survivor!  Diagnosed in 7/05 at the age of 42, had AC, Xeloda and Taxotere and 33 radiation treatments.  I was Stage II, no lymph node involvement, 2.1 centimeters.  I had to laugh at the posting about worrying about weight and hair, I do the same thing!  I can remember a time when I had no hair that I said I would never complain about my hair again!  But I am!  lol

 Hang in there ladies!  Be strong and take it one day at a time......my surgeon was actually the one who got me through it.  He always told me that worrying and obsessing about every negative thing I read would not change anything.  I've done all I could do and if the cancer returned 5 years from then, would I want to say "I'm so glad I sat around depressed and worried" or would I want to say "I'm so glad that I had fun!"  And from that day on, it really changed my outlook and once I started feeling better, I concentrated on the important things to me and had a great time doing it!  I laugh so much now and I don't let things get to me anymore!  Take care everyone!
