Avastin as clinical trail drug-anybody ?

Hi...just curious if anybody else is also receiving Avastin following chemo and surgery as part of a clinical trial, like I am.  If so, anybody else having BP issues?  A lil backround, I'm only 27 and and I'm in really good shape, so my normal BP was always great.  Following my surgeries, I started up with the Avastin again for 10 doeses, once every 3 wks.  I've had zero problems until last treatment (#8)...my BP was through the roof (180/124)...so immediately they put me on BP meds to get it under control.  I'm not into taking meds...however, they assured me that I would be able to stop taking them shortly after finishing Avastin (Sept 18th!!).  Anybody else with a similar experience?

    Hi Abbey,

I am on a clinical trial and I take avastin too.  So far my blood pressure has stayed fine but just so you know there is a discussion called clinical trial e5103 that is with avastin.  Definitely go on there and see if any one has had this issue.

    Abbey,

I was on a clinical trial with Avastin and Taxotere. After one tx, it caused high BP, fluid in ankles and lungs, 13lb weight gain, severe headaches. Basically put me in fluid overload. Onc did get rid of se's with Lasix, Lisinopril (for high BP) and pottasium pills, but I pulled out of the study. Too many s/e's of Avastin for me, and I did not want to take more and get worse s/e like stroke. I wish you the best, but make sure they are monitoring you Closely! I am now doing 9 weekly Taxol, ( I have had one) followed by 4 rounds of AC, followed by surgery. Good luck to you,

    Marci
