sore mouth tip

Options

My mouth was so sore and my throat and I have a rinse that was not working so I tried something last night after I saw bubbles in my throat and on my tongue. I took Cloraseptive its a spray for sore throats and I sprayed it all over in my mouth it numbed it all and I slept 5 hours straight it was great. If anyone knows what to use for the drainage down your throat its like all I do is blow my nose and it still drains in my throat after treatment I could use a good tip on that, I also got the shot for the red blood counts and had some stomach problems from it don't want to go there again it is also 2,000.00 even if you have Ins someone is paying for it and it has more side effects than its worth if it doesn't give me energy any quicker you would thing you would have a huget buzz from it at that price ha....

Good weekend and week to all I HAVE ONE MORE than rad.....

    enjoylife,

Sorry you're having such a tough time with the mouth sores. I hope they clear up for you before your next treatment.

Someone told me before I started treatments to bring something cold with me to sip on. I would always bring an insulated mug with ice water to sip during treatment. My brother was given a box of individually sealed disposable toothbrushes to give to me and I used them for the entire time that I took chemo. I'm not sure if it was one or both of these things that helped, but I never got a mouth sore.

Good Luck to you, hope things are better soon.

Oh yes, I'd forgotten, i got a new toothbrush after each treatment. I do after colds for dh and I also, but this is more important of course.

I also used a sensitive toothpaste and soft brush, and used biotin to rinse with before and after meals.  It did help, as I had no mouth sores, just tender gums after the last treatment.  The other thing is to rinse your mouth often, to keep hydrated and free of germs and such, if you can.  Ice chips during treatment is good, as as alaina said, ice water.  Keeps the blood vessels from being affected a bit in the mouth area.

I used a good chapstick also, all the time, to keep my lips supple and not dry out.  And drink a lot of water, before, during and after each treatment days.

Thanks for the tip on the mouth wash and my toothpaste has been stinging my mouth I had sores on my tong too but the Cloraspectic helped that alot just didn't realize it until the 5th of 6th chem my next and last is right before labor day weekend. I had no idea about the tooth brush thing just a soft one. I am going for my doctor tomorrow for blood work from this chemo and I am going to ask if I can post on the bulletin board a sheet of helpful hints during chemo and maybe other patients can add to it as some things work for some and not for others. thanks for all your help ....

Maura almost done and on the road to RAD I don't think it will be half as bad ....Innocent

I always had a history of mouth sores and when I was diagnosed, I told my dr. that and she gave me a prescription of Acloyvir with 5 refills and I will tell you, It brought me thru the chemo and now Rad. with NO mouth sores! I would ask your dr. for this prescription. It worked great!

If you have "thrush" like we can get during chemo your doctor should be contacted right away.

Diflucan is a prescription pill that will do away with the thrush.

I also swished with salt water.  It helped me very quickly.

Good luck and be careful brushing your tongue with sores on it.  Also pour hydrogen peroxide over your toothbrush after each use to eliminate the bacteria.

I wish you all the best.

thrush is a little bird that sneeks into your mouth while you are sleeping and poops on your tongue.
