It seemed like a good article until I read this part:

Mammograms: Samuel S. Epstein M.D., Professor Emeritus Environmental Medicine, University of Illinois at Chicago School of Public Health and his colleagues wrote an excellent review on mammogram screening based on 47 scientific articles. Their article is titled "Dangers and Unreliability of Mammography: Breast Examination is a Safe, Effective, and Practical Alternative." Dr. Epstein's article, published in 2001in the International Journal of Health Services, concludes that mammogram screening is dangerous and unreliable when it comes to the detection of breast cancer.

This is ONE STUDY and I'm sure there is plenty more research that talks about the importance of mammograms.  How many of us would not be here in 5 years if it weren't for a routine mammogram?  (Me, for sure!)  It makes me wonder about the other "research" that is quoted in this article.  I'm not saying it's wrong, I just think that we shouldn't alter our behavior based on any one study or article.

I found a lump on my breast five years ago.  For five years they have watched it closely on mammograms.  In fact last year they said it had shrunk.  This year, three weeks after another negative mammogram on the lump, I was diagnosed with Stage 4 Breast Cancer.   I was only diagnosed because a swollen lymph node was found on a CT scan that I was given for  a totally different reason and my surgeon did a spur of the moment aspiration.  MY life would have been saved IF I HADN"T relied on mammograms.  Yes, I believe they are dangerous because they are taken so seriously and they DON"T detect cancer 100%.  Please, please, don't use mammograms as your only diagnostic screening.  I can't go back and change anything now, but many of you can.
