I was wondering if anyone has gone through what I'm dealin with right now. I have the memory gel implants in. They were just replaced with a little bit bigger ones in June of this year due to alot of rippling that I was having. Anyway, not even 5 weeks later, my incision on the right breast (on the side) reopened up. I went to the dr yesterday, he told me that he is going to try to stitch it and hopefully there wont be an infection to follow, as my implant was exposed. If it DOES NOT work, then he will have to remove the implant, give me a drainage tube for about a week...........AND...worse part is that they wont be able to replace it for one month because it needs time to heal. I hope this does NOT happen and that I am okay with the stitching and antibiotics because this will feel as if I'm going through a damn masectomy all over again.

So please, if anyone has gone through this, let me know what the outcome was of this.

Hugs

Celene

    Celene,

    Please PM Rebecca IMMEDIATELY

She had a problem with her incision opening.  My PS said once an implant has been exposed to the air IT MUST come out.  And then wait a year for the whole thing to heal

I don't mean to worry you, but the longer you wait, the more of a chance for problems.

Try to keep your spirits up and I am sending you hugs

    Susan

Hey Celene...I found you through the lovely Susan...Please do PM me I had this happen to me earlier in the summer.  What Susan says is true, if the implant is exposed you need to have it removed because it is no longer sterile.  In my case, it was removed and then I was placed on antibiotics.  My cultures came back clear, but since MY doc failed to put in a drainage tube, my incision opened again a few weeks later....this time with a very messy result (yuck).  He stitched me up again, gave me a drain, and then more antibiotics.  This time it all has stayed closed.

Did you have radiation?  That makes a BIG difference....

Keep your head up, it will be over soon, and you can do it!

    Please do PM me....

    HUGS
