I take flaxseed everyday. I haven't started the tamoxifen yet (probably in 2 weeks). Is there a probelm with the two interacting?

The only research I have seen were studies in mice were it was demonstrated that it enhances the action of Tamox. There are no human clinical trials that I know of. I will probably start Tamox in the next two weeks and would like to take flaxseeds as a supplement.

Nina,
I have read the same study! and I try to eat flax when I take the tamoxifen...the first week I didn't notice the hotflashes until after 3 dose of tamoxifen, but it made me think the flaxseed was helping. now after almost 14 doses, I do not feel that bad..I am also taking coQ10 100mg three times a day. It is suppose to help tamoxifen too and supposedly help with the bad Side Effects (SE) of tamox.
I have just stuck honey bran (Marthe White brand) muffins in the oven, I added 2/3 Cup of ground flaxseed, one chopped up banana and a handful of chopped walnuts, then instead of the milk I added distilled water. I have been adding ground flaxseed to oatmeal, but I get tired of oatmeal....so I am trying muffins.

I've been eating ground flaxseeds nearly every day since May of last year. I was grinding 3-4 tablespoons and mixing that with plain yogurt and honey.
More recently I finally did some reading on the budwig protocol, which recommends mixing flaxseed oil, cottage cheese and ground flaxseed. I gotta say, I sure liked the yogurt/flaxseed combo way better.
I started flaxseed after reading Dr Northrup's book on menopause. The list of benefits is lengthy. I think I started a thread in this section where I took notes before I returned the book to the library. It would be around May of last year if you want to look for it.
Then the research of Dr Budwig is even more compelling for using flaxseed. I was taking tamoxifen at the time I started flaxseed. Initially I was search for relief from fatigue (didn't work) and from constipation that never used to be a problem for me until starting tamoxifen. Now I suspect it's a symptom of my hypothyroid condition. Flaxseed works great for constipation. I don't miss more than 3 days of flaxseed. By day 4, I suffer for sure. I stopped tamoxifen in january after being sick and tired of being sick and tired. Most people seem to tolerate it alright, but I was having ongoing nausea in addtion to the fatigue. When you're still naseated at the 3-year anniversary of starting chemo, something's gotta give. So I'm placing my faith in flaxseed. I have more confidence in it than a pharmacuetical anyway.

Althea,
I had to smile when I read you gave up Tamox. It stands to good reason too! so how long were you on the tamox?...my sister tried the tamox and another SERM but couldn't take them she is a 9 year survivor...and has supplemented flaxoil and coQ10 and other vitamins. It is good to see that you are doing so well!
God Bless
Amber

I just started taking flaxseed yesterday (1 spoon in my morning whole grain cereal). I'm taking Arimidex, is there any information on taking flaxseed with Arimidex?

Roswell Park Cancer Institute in Buffalo NY is conducting a "Flaxseed, Aromatase inhibitor, and Breast Cancer Study" . They are comparing flaxseed to aromatase inhibitors. They also want to see how the two work together on breast tumors. The study lasts for the 2 weeks just before breast cancer surgery.
For more info. ,call 1-877-275-7724 and mention the study by name. The local contact's name is Susan McCann, PhD. Her ph. number is 716-845-8842.

I'm curious. I just started taking Tamoxifen this july at my onc and bs urging. (stage 1 bc, bilate diep last july 2oo7) I was also grinding up my own flax for awhile and my onc told me to stop taking it because I'm er/pr+ and the flax is a photoestrogen and that I should avoid all photoestrogen in any quanity. (no drinking soy milk etc)
