I am an oncology nurse...this wasn't supposed to happen so close to home.  I am scared.  I am many, many miles from home.  I just need people to talk to that know what I am going through.  I am emotionally drained.  We are fortunate that it was found early so we are hopeful.

i may be young but i know the feelings that are running through you head. Just today i was told my grandma has breast cancer and its hard to deal with. So many women have beat this and there's so much treatment out there i know that everything will be okay. Just stay with your mom and give her all the help and support you can offer her.  I hope everything turns out amazing with your mother.

I know she's going to be just fine.  Her tumor is only 5mm- so tiny- but it's my Mom.  I live in OK and she is in RI.  I just moved here a month ago.  I am supposed to start at my new job next week.  My whole world is being turned upside down.  The worst part is the not knowing.  She is meeting with a surgeon next Wednesday and that's the part that is driving me crazy.  I know too much being that I work with these patients all of the time.  I see so many success stories but I see the other side as well.

Lindsey, I am sorry you are going through this. I am 36 years old and my mother was diagnosed 3 years ago with breast cancer. She was stage 4 from the beginning with mets to liver and bone. It was so very hard for me in the beginning when we found out but she takes one day at a time and thanks god for everyday she is here. We only live 10 minutes from each other so I see her everyday and I take her to all her chemo appointments and any test she has to have done. I hope everything goes well for your mother and keep us posted.

I am so sorry that you and your Mom have to go through this. Being an oncology nurse can be helpful to the family but hard on you.Remember all the encouraging words that you say to all your patients and their families and say them to yourself.I will keep you in my prayers

Your mom is lucky to have an expert in the family. My neighbor is an oncology nurse and she was so very helpful to me while I was going through chemo. Even though you are far away (thank goodness for free long distance!) you will be able to give your mom something that no one else will. Hopefully since her tumor is so small and she caught it early she won't have to go through the whole chemo thing. My biggest suggestion is to be there for her to talk to, and don't hold back in letting her know how important she is to you. My 18 year old daughter has been my biggest cheerleader and has given me strength to get through things I never thought possible. No matter your age, or how far away you are, there is a special bond between moms and daughters and this will only make yours stronger. Best of luck to both you and your mom.
