Pain and swelling

I had a lumpectomy and radiation treatment back in August of 2005 for stage 1 breast cancer.  After surgery I developed an infection in the breast.  After surgeon drained the breat twice, I developed an abcess.  I had to have the incision reopened and left to heal from the inside out.  Took some time - but did heal over.  Have always had tenderness in that breat since.  It swells occationally, but have been told that it is edema in the breast and not to worry.  In the past couple of days the breast has become swollen and painful.  Should I worry about this and contact my doctor?  I have recently read an article on IBC and wonder if this could be symptoms.  The surgical area is very had and I would suppose that is scar tissue.  Can scar tissue cause pain as well?????  Just a little worried.

Hi hon, I doubt it is anything more than more of the same.  By all means go be checked.  If you can, since you did not get good resolution from your former team, consider a breast clinic.

    Good luck, Shirlann
