My Mom is having a double masecotomy

Hi all,

     My mom is probably one of my best friends and we talk at least 2 or more times a day.  My mom was diagnosed about 3 years ago and had a lumpectomy and then she had radiation for 3 months and was extremely sick for a long time.  The day after she finished she was in an auto accident the car was completely totaled. 

    Then on Dec 26 2007, my mom went to her doctor again and then was told that it came back so they just removed it with a biopsy all was good until she went to the doctor  again for the 3rd time in June and they told her that she needs a mastectomy.  She does not seem to be that worried at all.  I am on the other hand worried and a little scared.  

    And while all this is happening my dad, who is a great man, was told by the hospital that he works for that he is no longer able to do his job, (same place my mom is having her surgery) ironic isn't.   

    My mom has a lot of other health issues and is an incredible person who has aver come every  thing that god has given her.  Okay now here is the questions...    How is the recovery for a double mastecotomy?  How is chemo?   When will she feel like her old self???  Thanks for listening.

Hi Misty,

I am sorry for all you are going through. I was there 5 years ago when my mother had her double masectomy. I can tell you she is cancer free. The surgery itself was painful and you will probably see her go through depressed days. The chemo my mother had went very well. She did not get ill but did feel queezy . The main thing make sure she drinks a lot of water and eats. My mom ended up catching pneumonia before her last treatment and this is because of her low immune system. My mom was in good shape and we stayed with her the first 2 days she was home because you don't want her lifting anything heavier than a gallon of milk. I hope this helps.
