Does anyone else have this mutation? I was told it is pretty rare. If you do, are you part Sicilian by chance?

    Cathy,

There's a web site called FORCE (Facing our Risk of Cancer Enforced) at www.facingourrisk.org. This site is dedicated to BRCA 1 and 2 and the different mutations...

Thanks so much....yes I am a member there too. I am just curious about actual people who have this mutation....rare enough that those who have it may be related....but I won't know for sure unless I find someone with it first!Smile

Thanks, I'm checking it out, too. Never heard of it.

    Hi Cathy -

Another BRCA1 trip neg here.   I also post at FORCE (as Linda suggested).

I'm pretty sure that your BRCA1 mutation, 185insA, is one of the most common BRCA1 mutations.  I have the 5382insC (aka 5385insC) BRCA1 mutation, which is one of the more common ones too.

There is a post at FORCE asking about people's specific mutations.   I believe it's 13 or 14 pages long.   I've found 4 or 5 others with my same mutation.   They also tend to have a grandparent from  Eastern Europe of the Ukraine.   You would probably find that thread very interesting ... and I'm certain you would find others with the same mutation you have.

    Best to you,

    CalGal

I have heard of the 185insA before. I am BRCA-1 5677insA and haven't ever found anyone else with that one. Well, except in my immediate family. Undecided

Thanks all for responding....I do have to correct the misperception though....the one I have is often confused with 185delAG which the most common Askenazi mutation (sorry about spelling)....as was confirmed by the breast surgeon I saw, 185delA is not seen very often....just curious to see who else might have it since I might be able to figure a bit of my geneology out!
