need cancer surveillance Dr at Memorial Hospital, NYC
I have had a prophylactic bilateral mastectomy (LCIS and family history of much cancer) and a failed reconstruction. Everything was removed, alloderm, saline implants - I know that I will not have a reconstruction in the future. I don't want any more surgery or pain. I am in NYC and need to know what kind of follow up I should have. I will not use the team at my original hospital...THEY STRUCK OUT!
I want to go to Sloan Ketteringl Memorial Hospital. I hear they are a full service hospital with very good divisions under one roof. Should I see a surgeon, an oncologist and what would most of you say should be the type of surveillance I should be doing, and the time period between? Also, who of you NYC woman has used a good doctor at SKM and what is his/her name? i don't want an alarmist...just a smart empathetic intelligent person. Do they exist? Also, if possible i would like a woman doctor, although a good man is OK too. Please PM me with names of great doctors for surveillance at Memorial.
Thanks in advance. There have been many steps along my route where this wonderful network of concerned, compassionate women has led me in the right direction.

Hi Femme: Did you have any treatment following the surgery? If so, I would probably see an oncologist. I was treated a MSKCC for both surgery and chemo.. they are wonderful! I would never go anywhere else. Go to their website at www.mskcc.org at look at the profiles for the doctors. They are all good. You can also call the "new patient" line which is also on their website. They will ask you a few questions and based on your answers will refer you to the doctor that best suits your needs. Good luck!

I did not have any treatment following the surgery as it was prophylactic, only for LCIS. My surgery to remove the implants however was complicated and my chest is quite deformed with a Raggedy Anne skin patch on one side as there wasn't enough skin left after the reconstruction went bad and my PS did not attended to galloping necrosis as quickly as was necessary.
I need someone whose sense of aesthetics is not going to make him/her want to do more surgey Someone who will respect my desire for no more pain (and tits that are outside my chest in my bra). In other words I need a respectful human being who happens to be a doctor. I must say that an oncologist seems to be the way I'm thinking since we all know surgeons like to "surge" i.e.-cut and sew. And no one is going to cut me if I can avoid it.
So glad you feel so great about your care at Memorial. Most of the people I know who have been there confirm your opinion. Who is good at MSKCC, that you know? Can you name names? I'm searching for names that girl- people have had experience with. You can PM me if you'd like.
