Help! Can't Address a Private Message!

Hi...first...I love the new site...cleaner...more streamlined...more sophisticated.

I composed a private message - but when I proceeded to type in the recipient's screen name (where it says TO:), it would only let me choose from the ones I have stored...it wouldn't let me type in a new recipient's screen name. Can you please check it out?

Hi Laura,

I'm very sorry that you've been experiencing difficulties sending Private Messages from the My Home area.  Please note that sending Private Messages from the My Home area is limited only to your Favorite Members.  You should be able to send them by following these steps:

1. Click the "Send Private Message" button.
2. Next to "To", you will find a menu of your Favorite Members. Select the Member to whom you would like to send a Private Message.
3. Fill in the Subject line and message body.
4. Click the "Send Message" link.

You may send Private Messages from the Discussion Boards / Topics pages by following these steps:

1. Click on the user name of the community member to whom you would like to send a Private Message.
2. Click on "Send user name a messsage".
3. Fill in the Subject line and message body.
4. Click the "Send Message" button.

 Thanks for the reply! Just so I understand...you can't send a PM via your home unless the recipient is listed as a favorite?...if so, you would have to click on the user's name, send the PM and at that time, add them to your favorites for future PM's.

Hi Laura,

You are correct, sending Private Messages from the My Home area is limited to Favorite Members. 

One note is that you do not need to first send a Private Message in order to add a member as a Favorite; you may add members as Favorites at any time by clicking on the "Member List" link in the upper right hand corner of the page, underneath where it says "Welcome _User Name", when you are logged into the Discussion Boards.   From there, you can click on a User Name and when that page opens, select the "Add as favorite members" link in the upper right-hand corner.
