Have never posted a question but this really bothers me. I have had pain up and down my right leg and hip since finishing all of my treatments in July of 07. 4 treatments of A/C and then Herceptin for a year. With each check-up since then I have complained to my Oncologist about the pain which seems to come and go. More come than go. He has finally ordered a bone-scan to be done in Sept. before my next check, but he told me that pain was a good thing. Most cancers don't hurt. Has anyone else heard that?  Just curious to know if this is a true statement or not.

Well, if it's any comfort, I had similar pain for quite a long time after finishing the same treatment you had. My oncologist seemed unconcerned. Finally, since she seemed unwilling to order up a diagnostic test, I went to a sports-medicine clinic and prevailed upon the doctor there to give me an MRI. I was vastly relieved when it showed not a metastasis but two herniated discs and arthritis. Physical therapy and chiropractic have largely relieved the pain. My advice: if you can't get in through the door, try the window.

When I have bone pain as a stage III'er talking...I worry myself sick.  Once I complained of bad pain in my upper back & neck which had never hurt before.  My onc which usually WON'T order scans immediately said "Lets set up a MRI' right away. It turned out to be nothing thank goodness...boy was I relieved.  You can have bone pain caused from cancer but more times then not it is caused by other things.  I've had several scares due to bone pain and each one turned out to be nothing:)

I think the bone pain I had in my upper back is caused by the lack of estrogen since I've had my ovaries removed and the fact I have been sitting bent over a bit to use my laptop.  Once I quit doing that it has went away.  So don't panic too much because you can have bone pain from all kinds of things after ALL we have been through with chemo, and changes in hormone status.  I am glad you pressed the issue to have a bone scan.  That is the only thing that will relieve your worry.  Once you get the all clear you will know its caused by something different you might be doing.  :)  I know how stressful it is to worry about things like that...is there anyway you could get your onc to PUSH up your appt so you could get that off your mind?  I always HATE to wait.  I feel so much better once I get my scans done.  See if he might do that for you.   Hang in there.
