I had my first PET scan today, and started wondering.  When I saw my onc last week, he said that all my blood work was good, except CA 27 29 tumor markers were elevated enough to make him concerned "that we've missed something".  I was kind of shocked, cuz I didn't know they ran tumor markers on us LCIS girls, so I didn't think to ask him the numbers.  He said he doesn't usually do this test with new patients (I have recently changed oncs, and this one listens and communicates so much better), but he did it because of my family history.  Anyone else in the LCIS community who've had elevated tumor markers?  Did anything come of them? (Cuz of course now I get to wait a week again for the PET results).  Any feedback would bring some peace of mind!   Thanks to all-denise

mtbmom--I have blood work every 6 months at my oncologists visit, but they only do the tumor markers once a year.  Fortunately, he's never said the numbers were elevated. I also have family history--mom had ILC. (what's your family history?)  I think some oncologists don't do tumor markers at all as they feel they are not that reliable. so maybe yours are elevated for some other reason that is totally insignificant--praying everything is just fine. How did they grade your LCIS? (as "grade 2 ")

awb- My family history is a lot like yours- mom had ALH, LCIS & ILC all discovered in a biopsy.  The grading on the path report says "Moderately differentiated ( Modified Black's Nuclear Grade II).  Is that how they graded yours?  Thanks for the prayers!  It's good to know that the tumor marker test is common though, and I did find in research that it's not always reliable ( the onc said some people just have elevated numbers), so I'm hoping that's the case.
