Recurrent breast cancer and shoulder and neck pain

Over the past several weeks I have have had shoulder and neck pain.  At first I attributed it to the fact that I had increassed my waitressing hours.  I also have pain under my right rib and around my back.  The pain in the neck is so bad it now hurts to swallow.  Is this something I should be concerned with.  Could it  at all associatated with the cancer?

How long ago were you treated?  I had surgery in oct and chemo till feb and just recently have had pains in my breast and shoulder and neck, but attribute it to using those chest muscles more now than recently.  They attach to the back ribs, under the arm, the shoulder and ribs and all the ligaments to the clavicle and what not.  It can cause pains later when you use them differently.  Perhaps with the longer hours you are sleeping harder and thus feeling that too?  Not moving at night as much?  Just a few thoughts.  Hope it's just normal stuff and nothing to worry about, but I understand the worry too!  It's always there!

I have had terrible neck and back pain as well and my doctors think it's due to radiation so I am in physical therapy and also having acupuncture it seems to be helping.

cmc its probally nothing but please get it checked as that is where i hut when they found my liver mets dont get scared thats probally not your case god bless and i will keep you in my prayers deb from ky

Hi there:

  I had shoulder and neck pain after chemo... I had it checked, it was nothiing.. just muscles.

But get it checked for peace of mind.

I am also suffering from this same thing. I have complained about pain around the rectoral muscle for 6 months now. My neck hurts but it may be from holding my body differently.  I have had pain in the right ribs since end of Nov/07 (1 month into rads and exactly 2 months post surgery.)  A pet scan in 3/08 showed NED but the CT scan showed a cyst in my liver.

I have a PET scan coming up 7/22/08. I pray it is still NED and these pesky pains are just the after effects of all the treatment. Other threads on the board show many of us are experiencing these same pains.  Guess the body retaliates from all the trauma.  Ask for scans if it is very bothersome.  Hope it all goes well for you.
