Hair Hair Hair - Another question

Day 16 of CT and was molting so much my husband shaved my head. Now it doesn't feel sore like when you change your part with dry hair. My question is about the places that still had hair. Right now they are like sandpaper like when DH needs to shave. Will this part fall out or if it doesn't is the growth just halted? . Trying to wear a knitted cap to bed and it sticks to the spots like Velcro. Wondered if it might get smoother

Chloesmom, I think only time will tell. I had some hair that never fell out (not very much) and did continue to grow a bit. But I think it's one of those things that just varies from person to person. As for sleeping, my mom made me a few hats out of t-shirt material, and they were fairly comfortable. I don't know if that's the kind of knit hat you're currently trying, or if you meant knit like with yarn.

CassieCat My hat is knit out of baby yarn so very soft. I will. Loot for old Tnahits as I love to sew. That would be much better!

Soft cotton (t-shirt) sleep caps are what I wore, also I believe (someone help here) satin pillow cases (available at beauty supply stores and department stores) work well - my head was cold when sleeping so I used the caps. That stubble will probably fall out shortly - mine did but I had my hair buzzed not shaved so it wasn't so much stubble.

ChloesMom - I didn't shave my head either because I was warned about stubble - instead just had it buzzed down to 1/2". I eventually lost all the rest & I expect you will too. My salvation at this stage was to use lint rollers several times a day. I 'rolled' my head over the bathtub to eliminate some of the mess. The tape was really good at gathering up all loose hair. I also used lint rollers to clean my sleep cap & scarves of the molting little hairs. Like 208Sandy - I always had a cap on because my head was cold.

Just have stubble patches ashad already buzzed it like GI Jane. The little pieces were everywhere. Mostly the stubble is on the top behind my forehead so actually it's not so bad. Acts like Velco to keep my scarf in place. Got a wig tonight and had my hairdresser trim it. Actually it looks better than my own hair did as I just pulled mine back in a hairband and never fussed with it. The wig is pretty but a pain as it was so hot I will only wear it when I have too and stick with scarves and those soft TLC catalog hats with brims. For now I look like Captain Picard or Charlie Brown.

Hi Chloesmom, I am sure you look great with the new wig! It was so funny when I had to shave my hair down. I was always told I looked like my Mom, and then I shaved my head and I looked just like my Dad, or Uncle Fester. Ugh, good thing I love my wig

When did those of you who have long enough hair, actually dye it? I have a semi perm hair color under my bathroom sink just waiting for my MO to give me the green light. My hair is about an inch or more long but she still wants me to wait.

HomeMom - My hairdresser used semi-perm. color on my hair at 9 weeks PFC - no issues. I didn't ask my MO about it. I'm not sure what the concern is. My hairdresser has treated many women post-chemo and has had no problems coloring hair with semi-permanent color. I will say that my hair came out a shade lighter than how it used to come out before chemo, so be aware of that.

Wow 9 weeks, I don't think I had enough hair to dye at that point!

She said it needs to grow more coarse so it doesn't fall out again. I talked to one of my friends about it and given my history before bc of my hair thinning, she thought I should wait too. I just look more gray then dark and I feel old even though my face doesn't look it.

The t-shirt knit hats were the most comfortable for me at night. They helped me stay warm, too. I used to have very long and thick hair, and I never knew how insulating it was until it was gone. I'm at almost 10 weeks since my last chemo now and have good coverage, but it's still very, very short. No sign of curls yet, and the color seems the same as before.

Cassie, mine is like that....but add a Dalmatian. Coming in shocking white but dark in back. I am going to have my stylist cut my wig shorter in a few weeks. I have not shared at work....so am in a predicament

My last chemo was 11/25 Taxol. My hair is now 1" long/short! Mostly black with white. It was brown before. But its hair.

I am dark in back, - grey on top and sides, - not as long as the ladies on the Oscars.

Showed my wigless head to my brother today for the first time, - he said I look like Mia Farrow .

yes yes, Mia farrow! I had a dark streak down the middle when it first started coming in. Called it my racing stripe. Here's then, july- 3 mo pfc and dec 2014(7 1/2 pfc).Came in straight then went curly but I always had curly hair so that's my natural hair. Now gray, colored it before. Kind of messy in second pic but love my curls and color most times.

I am dreaming of a cute pixie for a summer trip to Vegas. My top is coming in great, but the sides are sooooo fine & barely any new growth. I never lost all of my hair, just FYI. However, the sides are what I lost first. Could that be why they haven't come in yet? I'm 12 weeks post chemo.

Great curls, Lisa! I bet my hair will be curly again, too, but it is a novelty to have straight for now! I hope my curls will be as pretty as yours!

I recently googled my SE of watery eyes from Taxol (just found what I hope will be a successful treatment - my 5th ophthalmologist in 6 months - 6 x the charm!), and came upon info re hair loss.  It freshly confirmed what others have mentioned about the baby fine and super soft texture of post chemo hair.  It is indeed very much like a baby's hair, but there are assurances that, for most women, the original texture will return at approximately the one year mark. 

While I want my original hair back, I'm learning to make the most of my new punky look & have been told it's very cute.  Yes!!  Noticed Faith Hill's hair at the Oscars - and all the others sporting the really short look.  It could very well be the new "in" look!   Funny, when we were in Naples, FL recently, I noticed SO many women who looked very chic but had hair that looked like mine, ie, post chemo hair.  Just wondering if that is the case because there's an older population in FL or what??"

MomMom - I, too, have been going to the eye dr for my teary eyes since taxol.... what did you find that works?? I am on second type of drops (very $$ ) that i am now weaning away from, but sometimes still have tears!

I always seem to take these pics in my PJ's lol, but here I am at 7 months PFC. I officially have bangs! In a few more weeks I think I'll be able to start pinning them up or swept over. I can't wait to have more style options! I had only been cleaning up my nape, but I finally had to get a trim just above it, as It was getting too scraggly back there. She wanted to trim the sides, but I told her no way. It's long enough to push behind my ears and that's fine with me. I still miss my blond, but I'm holding out color for as long as possible.

I loved how my hair grew back - thick, wavey and easy to care for.. but by about 1 yr I was back to my original hair - thin/straight

Allydp, I LOVE LOVE LOVE your hair!! I am praying that mine will look that awesome at 7 months!! My top is thick & filling in great. I just wish my sides would grow more.

Anyone have an idea why the sides aren't really showing new growth, but the top of my head is full and thick as can be? I have hair on the sides, but it's mainly what I didn't lose in the first place.
